Question about Sony CFD-G500 Radio/Cassette/CD Boombox

1 Answer

Volume control Radio was under a leak in the ceiling. Was getting staticy noise with power off. Unplugged it and let it dry for several days. Everything seems to work fine except the volume control - low sound but very bassy (super bass adds more). I have no qualms about taking apart and even have test equipment - figuring out how to get it apart (there seems to be six marked screws) is usually my biggest problem (that and understand9ng electronics).

Hello, sounds as if its an older reciever and the control is simply dirty(dusty) . What i would recommend (if you can access it) is simply spraying contact cleaner into the control .Contact cleaner can be purchased at a radio shack or online ,just get a quick drying one and do it while its unplugged.

Try checking the coax antenna wire coming out of the back of the radio. The antenna wire use to plug in, and I've had problems with them viberating out.

This is an easy fix with a can of volume knob cleaner i think its called. You should be able to get it at radio shack. You just spray it into the volume knob and let it dry. The instructions are on the can.

You'll probably find that the alarm control unit got wet - it is sometimes located under the drivers or passengers seat, or under the kickpanels/dash - You may find that it dries up and works OK, or never works right again - I'd recommend fixing the leak first, then moving on to the alarm system... I'd be cautious with introducing H20 to the alarm control unit, as they can disable the vehicle from starting or running...

I have an infinity sw12 that is for some reason making a high pitched noise and some cracking noises as well. It does seem to work otherwise. I get the same noise when the cable to the stereo is unplugged....

It could be an internal "cold solder joint" however, if your lucky, it may just be dust buildup on the control pods and switches. Radio Shack sells "Tuner Wash" which will clean potentiometers (volume controls) and other electrical contact points. It's an inexpensive "try". Pull the volume and crossover knobs and lightly spray down with the wash. Let it set 10-15 seconds then move the control pod back and forth. Turn it back on and see if it's better. Hope this helps

It really depends on what speakers you have in the ceiling. There are several different models. Do the speakers not work at all now? There is a power amplifier for the DMC1 that will give you Stereo

No sound

PLUG IN YOUR HEAD PHONES IN - do you get sound ? If you do Get sound from your headphones it could be that your speakers blown and would recommend Bose to take a look if still under worrentee. if NOT You could still get it covered by domestic general find them at this link https://www.domgen.com otherwise if you dont want to pay for a repair take a look yourself - get a screw driver open up the case as best as you can look at the speakers, you may well find that you have a dry joint or a cable could have come disconnected if so solder it back on and you've FIXED IT! hope this helps. if it does OR IT DON'T, please leave feedback Anyway cheers raverbaby
