I was thinking of trying WD40, but was hoping that someone could tell me how to actually get to these wheels so that maybe I could try to replace them. I don't think alcohol and soap would be satisfactory - I already cleaned them off as recommended by the manufacturer - used nail polish remover, but the wheels are too dried out to catch the paper.

Thank you for the replies, there is no solution to this problem, presently. However, if companies had the integrity to be green and offer parts for problems such as this our country would be filling landfills slower!!

This printer new was sold for less than $150.00, the cost of repair will be at least $100.00, and if the part is not available from Canon I doubt anyone else will have the part new. I suggest you replace the printer with the newest version that is comparable to the old MP620 an in my opinion as good or better then the MP620. The Model I suggest is the PIXMA MP560 All-in-one wireless Canon printer, it is sold by Amazon for starting at $117.00.

Low cost printers used by the home computer system are considered and designed as throw away products, they don't want you to fix it, sorry but that is the truth of the matter. The high end commercial printers (big $$) are really made to last, and parts are available for many years after they are not the current model. This is also true of home computers, I know all of the above from very personnel experience. I always give the honest answer, even if it is not very popular. I do agree with you 100% on going "Green"

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. The rubber treads in the rollers wears down, making them smooth, so they won't pick up the paper. Sometimes, they are aged, which also gives them a smoother rounded texture, causing jams. The quick fix is to liven up that roller with a mixture of Alcohol and Soap. Damp a rag with the solution and wipe the rollers clean with it. That's make them more pliable and it will work for quite sometimes

This will be just a band aid solution but if still wont work then most likely you need to bring it to a repair shop.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Like what canon tech support told you that you need to replace them. I just provide you with a band aid solution because the only solution for your problem is to replace the rollers. since that the rollers is not working then it should be replace with the same part. Anyway thanks for your time.

Will not manually feed paper

Are you talking about the document feeder or the copier. On both counts try to clean the rubber wheels above the feed tray, or up on the document feeder with something like windex or a water cleaner. make sure the wheels are dry, and watch to see if the wheels are turning. If wheels are turning when you feed you need new wheels, sometimes you can rough them up with a grit nail file, or sandpaper.

Printer screen says that there is no paper when I just put some in the front feeder. I have a Canon MP620.

The MP620 also has a rear slot for smaller paper sizes. Did you perchance submit a print job for some
alternate paper size and the printer is expecting a rear load of paper?

I cant get the machine to grab the paper and it says its out of paper, yet its not out of paper.

Hi, the Ip3000 has 3 different feeding trays...
make sure that the printer is trying to "grab" the paper in the tray that you have chosen to use in the printer properties box...
when you give the print command can you see the rubber roller moving to grab the paper in the top feeder tray???
if the roller that feeds the printer is not moving you may have accidentally changed the settings to grab paper from the bottom tray...the one right under the door that opens to let printed pages out of the printer...
the 3rd feeder tray is the DVD/CD printing tray...
I suggest that you look at the printer Properties for remedial action...
hope this helps you with your problem...
cheers
haitchhcee
p.s.
suggest you place paper in the bottom tray before making adjustments to see if it is trying to grab the paper from there...

Does your printer have a paper tray on the bottom as well? If so there's a feed switch that tells your machine to use the tray or the rear feeder. There's also a small printer picture with a light that either is lit for the top or bottom feeder. To be safe, put paper in both trays.

Can't print business cards. Won't feed from rear tray.

I just spend over an hour on the phone with Canon for the same problem... the resolution is simple. From the Control Panel, select Printers & Faxes. Right-click the mp620 printer, and select Properties. Select Printing Preferences from the bottom of the General tab, then click the Page Setup tab. Choose Print Options at the bottom. Place a check mark in the box next to "Disable the paper source setting of the application software." Click OK 3 times and the problem should be solved.

Paper feed feeding multiple sheets plus noisy feed

The most likely cause of this problem is a paper feeder malfunction. Because you were not specific in the model you have, repair could be rather variable.

One plausible cause is the paper rollers have tried up. Normally when the small rubber rollers grip the paper, the friction generated by a properly moisturized feeder can grip a single sheet. If your rollers are getting dry, you can use some rubbing alcohol on a q-tip and rub it on the rollers. Make sure not to use isopropyl alcohol, that will cause the rollers to dry out even more. I've heard of people using WD-40, but I've never tried that. You would want the WD-40 to dry a while otherwise it will leave greasy residue on your nice white paper.

Another cause could be a small object (paperclip, staple, raisins) stuck in the paper feeding mechanism. Carefully inspect the feeder, comparing one side to another, and gently pushing on the movable parts to make sure they can move free. You don't want to push too hard or you could knock out a needed spring or damage the plastic gears.

Hope this helps!

Ink Jet Printers are notorious for this. Try using household dish detergent( or any thing that contains glycerin [C3H5(OH)3] ) on the rubber wheels. It appears that the glycerin in the dish soap replaces the glycerin in the material frequently called rubber.

Apply the dish soap to all exposed wheels.
Let soak for five to ten minutes.
Wipe the wheels clean. Clean up any spillage too.
Run a few sheets of paper through the printer (until the damp/oily wheel marks disappear from paper).

Printer should work like new when complete.
