How do i install a password in my wireless rauter, to prevent intruders access? Linksys/Cisco 192.168.0.1

Hi Friend,

In order to resolve the issue please follow the steps:

1.Please connect the router with a computer
2.Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of the Web browser(e.g-Internet Explorer) and hit enter
3.Enter the Username and the Password (defualt password is admin and leave the user name blank)
4.Now on the Router setup page click Wireless tab and fill the sections as mentioned:

Wireless Network Mode-Mixed
Wireless Network Name-As per your choice
Wireless Channel-6-2.437GHZ
Wireless SSID- Enabled and click Save Settings

5.Now click Wireless Security tab.
6.Select the Security mode as WEP and fill the sections as mentioned

Default Transmit key- select 1
WEP Encrypion-64 bits 10hex digits
Key1-Enter 10 digit or 10 letter password(e.g-your telephone number) and click Save settings.

Now turn the router for 30 seconds and after that turn it on.
Try to connect your wireless devices, it will ask for a password which will determine that your network is secured from intruders.

I hope this will resolve the issue.

I need to secure my network. please help

Please get Network Magic at: http://www.purenetworks.com/nmlp/home-networking.php?gclid=CKGMq92r654CFQk75QodqncHIQ&src=google&kw=network+magic+download

This is a tremendous network manager which will help you share your devices, secure your network and perform all kinds of other services for you. NM is a Cisco product just as is your Linksys.

I cannot get password set up to keep unwanted

Please turn off the "broadcast" feature of your Linksys router. This will turn off the "advertising" your router is currently doing, allowing your neighbors to find your network.

Next, you can set your router to allow only certain MAC address devices to use its features. You will need to find out the MAC address for each of your devices.

Next, you will have to setup a password situation to allow the logon. Currently, your scheme is not working. I'm not sure why.

I use Network Magic for my network management duties. It is a free download and eval period after which Cisco (maker of Linksys) would like for you to purchase a license. After the free eval period, Cisco allows you to continue to use the program but not all features unless you pay. I use the paid pro version and I love it.

NM will track intruders, help you share resources, repair broken connections and many other tasks.

P.S. There are no intruders in a wired system! If you can use a wire, instead of wireless, you will not only be more secure but faster as well.

I hope this information helps you ... Thanks for posting your Q at FixYa.com

I can't set the password for my dlink router. every time i enter the password and click save settings, the page won't display and i loose internet connection.

I understand you are having issues setting your network password.

May I suggest you try a network management tool called Network Magic. I use this program and I love it. It will make your administrative duties a breeze.

Use it free for about a week, then they want $. You can continue to use the program with fewer features or you can pay.

NM will help you share resources, set security, identify intruders and many other tasks.

Security

your router will have a firewall built into it as well as your laptop firewall, as long as you have wep wpa-psk security on your wireless network there should be no problem along with an internet security programme
