Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

A towel became jammed between the door and the door seal which caused the seal to detach from the machine. I've managed to replace the seal but unfortunately the drum will no longer spin - the motor continues make all the usual noises, but the drum does not move - its as if the drum has become from the motor. Can you help?

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
If this is a front load washer it sounds very much like the belt is broken or has slipped off.
Even if it has only slipped off it is better to replace it with a new one 'cos it will only come off again later! Belts are not expensive- sorry I do not know how much yours would cost- and are easy to be changed by a competent person:-
REMOVE POWER FROM THE MACHINE AND REMOVE THE BACK.
The motor support bolts should be loosened and the old belt removed. Often putting the new belt on is a bit of a struggle, even with the motor 'loose', because it is new and smaller!
Once on it should be tensioned by pulling the motor against the belt firmly- but not over tight- and the motor support bolts tightened.
ON NO ACCOUNT SHOULD ANY FORM OF LEVERAGE BE USED TO TENSION THE BELT. THAT COULD LEAD TO DAMAGE TO THE BELT, MOTOR AND BEARINGS- EXPENSIVE!
Hope this is your problem solved.
Good luck,
John C

Front load washer door seal is detached

The seal appears to be spring reinforced. you may need to remove the door partially and rewrap the spring around seal. or if broken or cracked try to replace or fix with a sheet rubber and rubber cement. May be an old bike tube!? hehe

The door lock actuator is stuck in the lock position

I need a bit more info to ptovife tpoyu witht he correct souiltion, but I will try to offer up a generic answer. The lock actuator is nothoing moree than a motor. If it is jammed and not moving at all, it probably is frozen and needs replacing. However, many times I've torn apart doors expecting to replace a bad actuator and have found a linkage rods jammed into door insualtion, or they have became deformed over the years and have worked their way into the inner door panel insulation padding. Without more info (front door, back door, rear hatch door, symptoms, thats all i can offer.

The two lights to check outlet and inlet are flashing and the water will not drain away. I imagine that it's the pump or something. I've opened the little door down at the bottom left and...

In the bottom of your machine the is a tray in the tray the is a float, if the machine leaks the float lifts and hits a switch activating the two light on the fascia. By tipping the machine you are emptying the tray thus allow it to work. Most likely cause is when you checked the drain pump the flap on the front was not angled down sufficiently or you unscrewed the filter to much and water backed up into the base. Put towel on floor and tip appliance and retest

How to change doorseal on zwf1221w

The procedure is as follows to replace the door seal ,but it is not easy. Unplug the appliance from the wall socket.
Take the top off the appliance and open the door.
Remove the plastic seal retainer and peel the seal off the front panel.
The seal to tub is held by a spring.
Just pull hard on the old seal and it will come off, you'll then find the spring in the groove of the seal.

Putting it back on is a nightmare.
Put some washing up liquid around the part of the seal that fits to the tub, this will help it slip on.
Tip the machine back about 30 to 40 degrees, this will give an inch or two more room for your hands.
Fit the seal to the tub, now the struggle begins. You have to fit the spring.
Fit this around the top, then make a wedge with kitchen towel and jam it in between the front weight and the seal, this will jam the spring in place at this point. You can now use two hands to put the seal on.
For getting parts you can get it from www.repairclinic.com
Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

With towels we get leaky front door like load is too heavy? does not happen with other loads whirlpool duet sport front loader washer 2 years old. new problem last two months.

Most likely cause is the door seal or proper name for part is door bellows where the door seal to the machine. Check for tears or rips inside the bellows and any cuts where the door meets the seal. The seal could also be pronated toward the inner tub too much just from wear. The seal would need to be replaced. Also make sure the door is locking. The reason it happens with the towels (heavy load) is b/c they put more pressure on the door making it easier to break the water tight seal. Please rate this post.

How do I remove outer door hinge housing to replace with new one?

there are four screws holding the hinge on to the machine. two are visible in the hinge from the front but there are two inside the machine on the left side .turn off the power and water supplies drag the machine out from its place tilt machine back to allow a gap between the drum and cabinet then using a star shaped driver also called a Torx driver remove the two screw from the hinge and remove it.when refitting a magnetic driver is a great help to prevent dropping the screws into the machine a torch is advisable to see what you are doing I hope this helps

Stuck Drum

When you open the front door, there should be a sliding lever attached to the door on the left side. This lever should pull out when you open the door. If it does not due to becoming detached, you should pull it out by hand. Now you should be able to remove the drum. Check the door and see why the lever became detached. You should be able to remove the door and pick up a new one at your local Broother service centre. One other thing to note, sometimes people will use generic toner cartridges. I have seen these toners get jammed up and break the gears inside the machine. If this is the case, you will most likely have to bring it in to a service centre.

DOOR GASKET DRAINAGE HOLES

This is a poor design. Mine became so stained that I replaced it. Unfortunatly the replacement part is for a newer model and the retrofit is a little different than the original. The seal didn't let the door close all the way and I have to push against it to get it to lock. I am hoping the gasket will loosen up over time. Even with that the drain is a water collector. I spray mine with a mildew product after washes, or leave the door open so it will dry out, and I occasionally wipe it with a rag. I hope Bosch changes their design.
