Did you make the driver/app disk and have the os restore disk....
you can do a dectructive restore and most of the viruses will remove... but if you have a restore partion a virus could of infected that.. and there are some that can write to the bois and MBR wich some restore dont fix.. I would rec running a free scanner after restore like house call from trend to make sure all of the viruses are gone
ps you can also try msconfig and disable startup and run task manger and see mem usage and check to see if you have enaff mem.. vista 2gb xp sp2 512+mb sp3 768+mb

My Acer Aspire One is running slow and is starting to freeze up

You have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:
http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5756
When Installing choose the non-pro version.

Download, Unzip, Install and Run TDSSKiller:
http://majorgeeks.com/Kaspersky_TDSSKiller_d6895.html

Download, Install and Run Super Anti-Spyware:
http://majorgeeks.com/SUPERAntiSpyware_d5116.html

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:
http://majorgeeks.com/Avira_AntiVir_Personal_-_FREE_Antivirus_d955.html
Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

My laptop is slow

............and not the only one, mine has the same tendency. What i do is do a good "spring cleaning" throw everything out that you do not need.
Run a virus/cleaning softwear. This has usually helped mine.
Good luck

Everything is running extremely slow have done disk clean up and defrag and cleared out some programs that i dont use but still is runnig slow how can I fix this??

These are symptoms of a virus or a spyware program, have you run a full system scan for any of this type of malicious software (virus's and spyware) Norton Internet security is a good choice.

Good Day! I would like to ask for your help about problems regarding to my Toshiba Satellite 1801. My laptop is very slow, refreshing it takes almost 5 minutes and Opening a programs takes almost 15...

Welcome to FixYa!

here are some steps that you may follow .
1. go to start > run> type MSCONFIG
a window shall open and DISABLE all the items that are being run at START UP
here are caps
let_me_help_8.jpg

See if that helps you ?

More over have you tried installing a Anti-virus.Cause sometimes Virus make the computer slow.
, as a tip De-fragment your hard drives time to time.if virus has hit your computer try installing a fresh copy of windows and then installing Anti-virus .let me remind you when you install a copy of windows do not attempt to open any drive cause there are auto-run viruses. so you first clean your computer then go to other drives clean and safe.

Do comment if it helped you in ANY MANNER !

Hi, I have a Toshiba Laptop, I think it got virus

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

The great thing about the newer Toshiba's is that they have an internal resetting system! This link works for all models 2007 and up!

http://en.kioskea.net/forum/affich-58528-reset-toshiba-laptop-to-factory-settings

Please read instructions carefully. I have reset other Toshiba's and it took a few tries when i was 'new' to these steps, but within a few minutes, it worked like a charm! I will also advise that if you have anything such as files or pics that you want to keep, save them to email or upload them to another site before you do this. This will wipe out everything, but it will run like a champ with a clean slate once this is performed!

Please rate my solution if you find this useful!

if you are experiencing these and unsure on what to do, better take your laptop a laptop tech, if you feel that you needed a hard drive change, then take it to a tech, have them replace your old hard drive

Slow boot up and slow performance

you have 512mb of ram, firstly i recommend upgrading to atleast 1GB of ram especially if using Vista.

You may have a virus, assuming you have got an antivirus programme, run it, if not click the link below for AVG 8 Free

http://free.avg.com/ww.download?prd=afe

Also clean your system of old temp and registry files using Ccleaner, again free, click link below
