Hi greene_b13,
Check you vertical yoke for shorts.
Make some re-soldering around the vertical section circuitry.
Check the diode around the vertical section circuitry for shorts.
Replaced all electrolytic capacitor in that section.
Thanks for visiting Fixya.

A white horizontal line on a tv is an indication that your vertical circuit is defective. Very common for the vertical IC to go bad. The fuse in a TV set is only there to keep your house from burning down if there is a problem. Your set has a problem. In my area repair should cost you about 100 to 120$. Tube Tv sets have about 5 years of expected life. I would invest my money in a new LED set.

Hi there i have a 50 inch plasma tv model ps-50q96hdx/xeu which seems to have a mind of it's own when i switch it on. sometimes it comes on, sometimes it won't! when it does turn on it has been found

Hello,

You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits.

The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad. This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced.

The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

It's the problem of overheating in the power supply board of the TV.on the power supply board of the TV there are few capacitors and IC.any of this IC is got short or may be weak.so due to this when you start the TV the current passes from electric outlet to the power supply board of TV.but when the current passes from that weak/faulty part at that time current gets stopped or slow and the board overheats and TV shuts off.

This is a common problem faced by many other users too.the possible option to solve this issue is to check the power supply board by a meter and continuity tester and replace the faulty component on the board which is short due to which power supply board is getting overheated.its bit technical job but yes its not at all a costly repair to do or get it done by the technician. for required parts it can be easily available from local electronic hardware shop.

You know basic electronics' and soldering? Most of the times, the power supply board just have dead leakages gases capacitors. These capacitors always bulges up on it top,or puff up on it top.Replaced these gases leakages capacitors will get your TV power stable, and work again.
You still need to check for leakages...

Or tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a whole refurbish power supply board for the replacement.

Good luck.

My tv all of a sudden has horizontal lines across the picture.

You have bad grounds on your vertical IC. And you have a bad capacitor or two. I don't recall the actual location of the vertical IC location. I would say it may be U4501 location. Resolder the seven pins of this IC. Now check capacitor locations C4505 which is a 35 volt 220 Mf value, and C4506 which is a 63 volt 330 Mf value.Replace these caps as necessary. Then check the solder grounds at the power supply chip U4101, this chip is a switch mode regulator and may become detached from the board. Resolder these 11 pins and be careful not to short the pins with too much solder. Please note the two pins on the right (separated by a missing pin) are soldered together, this is OK. Now for the biggest challenge. You must pull the bottom shield off the tuner (has the RF connection). Yes, this area can produce the horizontal lines you speak of. When removed, you will see about 15 bad solder connections. This area will require great skill to resolder. The solder on the perimeter of this tuner is very difficult to work with, and you do not want to burn off any traces connecting to out side feeds. You could destroy this board. Now inside the tuner area there will be 5 pins or grounds that will need resoldered. Be careful here and not to burn off the small traces leading to other connections. Replace the tuner shield after complete inspection and soldering. In some cases the eeprom, locationU3201, will need replaced. Might not in your case as you say you can still watch TV and the audio is good. I know this is a lot of information, but this TV can be saved. I have repaired many of these. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support.

I have a GE 31GT740 31" TV That turns itself off and then back on every few seconds. There is now a broken (dashed) white line that goes from the very top center of the screen to the right side. The...

I would be concerned with the vertical IC. This IC has pins that have separated from the board itself. You will note the area under the vertical IC is almost black. It will do no good to resolder this. You will need to replace the vertical IC with a new one. And be sure to replace those electrolytic capacitors near and next to the vertical IC. Bad grounds on the this IC will cause your TV to shut down. Also inspect the rest of the TV board. In some cases the retrace cap will always need resoldered! But please inspect all areas of this board for bad grounds and resolder as necessary! Good solid grounds will give you a dependable set. Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

Hi

There are basically tho type of IC in the TV

Video IC and Sound IC or you can say two section.

since your voice section is affected so there are two possible reasons for that the main sound IC will be faulty

or

the amplifier IC connected to it will be faulty. So please check with repair person located near your locality and never try to open the TV at home at it contain some parts which will give strong electric shock

Hi, thank you for visit fix ya.
Common problems on this tv ( cause no power):

2.- IC vertical output and capacitor in same section ( 100uf, 220uf,3300 uf and 2.2uf ), replace all.
3.- STKs ICs convergence , need be replace ( check any resistor around STKs, for burn or brown color).
----- Try to do step by step; you will repair your tv.
I will be here for any future question.

The vertical output IC has stopped working. The vertical output IC is the part that drives the coils in the yoke that spreads the picture up and down. This could be because it has cracked loose from the board (solder joints) or it simply burned out. Sometimes a bad pump-up cap will cause the vertical output IC to short out, and when the IC shorts out it often opens up a small value resistor next to the flyback. This is a relatively easy thing to repair. A qualified tech will be able to tell exactly why the vertical output has stopped working and repair it for you.

White line horizontially through middle of picture

A repair like this is in the vertical drive/output section of the TV set. It could be a simple capacitor causeing this problem or a combination of the capacitor and the output IC. A repair like this should not exceed 120 to 150 US. Is it worth that to you? How much can you replace it for? Good Luck PS please dont forget to rate this thread.
