How do i reset the password to my 2wire router an connect a wireless laptop

Is your 2Wire Router by AT&T, if so the password is on the side or bottom of the router. Look for Network Key or Network Password on the router.

Once you have that, you simply go to your laptop, and try connecting to your wireless router. It will be the one with the strongest signal if you don't know your SSID. Once you click connect, it will ask you for the password/passphrase or key, type in what you found on the router.

There is really no need to reset the password unless you have some other reason. But there are 2 ways to reset the router's password, you will need to have a computer that is connected to the router with a network cable (most times this is a desktop already connected). Then you will need to know the router's IP Address to type into a internet browser. It will be a set of numbers such as that you would type into the address bar where you normally type www to get to a web page. Once you have the right ip address you will need the router's login id and password. Most times this is set to the default unless whoever set it up changed it. Once you are in the router then you go to the wireless and wireless security area to change the password. If you don't know the ip address or the userid and password for the router, then you can google it on the internet.

If your internet provider is AT&T you might be better off calling them to reset your router's password. They can walk you through it.

Setting up Wireless on router and wireless security

For setting up any router you can follow the below simple steps

  1. Connect the router with a power cable and switch on the poser, reset the router with its reset button normally you can find the reset button on the rear side of the router for 30 seconds and then switch off and on the power
  2. After reset conenct the router to any laptop or desktop with a cable and also connect the router to the modem or the internet service provider cable
  3. after all connection lights will come on go to right hand side corner of the computer and check if the network connection is showing connected
  4. Once you are connected with a wired connection open a page of internet explorer and type in router addess normally it will be or and then type the username and password default usernames and passwords can be found in router manual.
  5. Once the router setup page is open you can confugure the router easily without the CD setup.
  6. The advantage is you do not have to run the setup CD and you can also do wirless settings for your wireless laptops or devices
  7. Go to the wirless settings page and you can select the wireless on and off or you can setup a wireless security to avoide your router with unauthorized acess
  8. I would recomend always keep the wireless network secured if you are using the router for a home or small office as there can be people who will be using your bandwidth for free without your permission
  9. one more tip i would like to give whenever any kind of setup is required on the router do it by a wired connection only and not thought a wireless pc or laptop as it can disconnect you from the router in between of your setup
  10. WEP is the kind of wireless security which is easy to setup and remember and most wireless cards of laptops and computers support it
All the best with your wireless router configuration and security setup

I have a dsl modem from our telecommunication company, it works well though but when I connect my dlink dsl-2640T router, the internet access gets lost. There's this one time that both laptops work using...

I would start by doing a reset of the router to factory using its procedure. Most routers have a reset button that if you hold it down for 10 seconds will reset back to when it was new and erases your settings but might be the trick to get it to work again. After you input your settings again, I'd check the router maker's support site for a firmware update and update the router. These updates can have fixes for just such issues.
I have had older routers that failed and will give weird behavior like you described. I just replaced it with an Apple Airport router and have been delighted with it.

Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router Issue Allows 1 Computer at a time

Your router my not be DCHP enabled or it might not be assigning the IP addresses either.

I would do a reset and start all over with your security settings and see if that works. Worst case scenario you could always turn security off when your parents or others are there.

Forgot password for my wireless router and i need to reload it again to connect my laptop

    Resetting your wireless password
Connect your router to your laptop through a ethernet cable.

Open the router admin console in your browser:-
    Now browse to
Enter admin/password or admin/admin to login to the admin console of router.
There will be a link on the admin console for security and authentication. There you can find the password edit box where you can modify the password which you can now remember.
You can additionally use a WPA / WEP key/paraphrase to protect your wireless network.

In worst case you can do the following. But this will loose all your old settings.
You can reset your router settings by pressign the reset button at the back side of your router using a paperclip for around 30 seconds. WARNING: This resets all your previous settings.

    My wireless router wont work

Run a cat5 cable from the laptop to a cat5 port on the router, open internet explorer in the address window type or what ever the IP address of the router once you have accessed the router create your PPPOE internet connection, enter your Internet Service Provider's username and password. Once you have done this, disconnect the cat5 cable and connect wirelessly to the router from the laptop. If all this fails press and hold the reset button on the back of the router for 10-15 seconds this will reset the router to factory defaults. connect to the wireless router and create the PPPOE connection.
