Question about Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 (U01E200) 200 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

I have a Maxtor Personal Storage 3200 UBS. I have had it for a couple of years and I use it to backup my files. Last Friday it just stopped working. When I plug in the USB port it the computer responds acknowleding something was pluggged in but it does not go any further. I tried in on another computer with the same results. I used XP and there was updates about then too. What is my next step?

Try using a different USB cable in connecting to the computer. Sometimes, the USB cable wires gets defective due to wear and tear. If that doesn't work, look for another AC power supply, as it is sometimes the cause of the harddrive not spinning the motors. Try a different power cord, or a different power supply, and hope it works.

Maxtor Personal Storage 3200, after years of use my Vista machine now tells me that the USB Device isnt recognised.

However last month I found that the Maxtor is no longer recognisable to my machine. Reading through related postings on other sites it appears that Vista updates from Microsoft may be the reason why this functionality has suddenly ceased. I presume the security updates in particular may have meant that the Maxtor 3200 is also considered a potential threat. The question is who will take responsibility for resolving this issue of Maxtor 3200 users no longer being able to access their back up files via their Vista based machines. Personally I believe the onus is with Microsoft

hope this helps

My desk top crashed and I have all my files backed up on a Maxtor 3200. How do I down load my backup files from my Maxtor 3200 to my new lap top. I can't find any paper work for it.

Hi,

Just plug into your laptop and find the drive for it, then enter into the files that you want to put on your laptop.
Copy and paste these files into your laptop hard drive, don't cut and paste just copy and paste them.

That way you will always have them incase your laptop should go down.

Hope this helped.

Thanks

Jason

Try connecting the Maxtor to another computer and if it functions normally, then backup your data. Then try formating the Maxtor on your computer.

I backed up my old Dell laptop last year. I bought a new Dell laptop. I want to access the backup on my Maxtor and cannot do it. I want to load it onto my new laptop. How do I do this? I want to back up...

Very Simple. Just connect the Maxtor External Hard drive to your new laptop. Open Windows Explorer and you will see the Maxtor appearing as a Drive. Access the files from the explorer.
My advice is that create a new folder on the maxtor and then do a backup of your new laptop on to this new folder.
DO the same for your office PC.

Maxtor Personal Storage Unit 3200 - Model U01E100

it makes no difference how old the drive is, unless you transfer the same amount of content everyday and can chart and predict. It  might help to wrap your mind around the actually capacity and extent of files you trasfer and use. If that drive is a 200GB....1 gigabyte is roughly 1 cd and a half. A compact disc can hold 700MB, or gauge it to like a ipod.  So if youre possibly transferring say 2GB per day, you will reach the max of the drive in 3 months?

2GB X 90 days=180GB

If you are using graphic applications, or video...you may want to look towards a 320 GB or 500GB as things only get larger with current computers........Just 3 years ago, who knew what a gigabyte was? Now we own drive in upwards to 1TB ( terabyte ).

keep me posted..
