Question about Olympus DSS Player 7

Open Question

I have installed the DSS software on my macbook but it does not seem to be working as it should. I have had to manually import the audio files and I can use the playback control window but all of the other options are inaccessible to me. They are gray. Now, I am trying to use the footpedal but the computer has not even recognized the footpedal software. I am transcribing a lot of data and would appreciate it you could help me figure out why the DSS software is not working as it should on my macbook.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Foot switch will not respond.

The answer is all in the serial number you use to install the DSS player!

Look carefully and you will see the recorder disk has in my case an [E] printed above the install serial number and the transcription pedal has [T]

Install the same disk with the E the driver is there, the control in Control Panel is there, but the foot switch does not work with the software. Put in the serial number with the [T] and foot switch works first time!

If you uninstall the play and then reinstall with the [T] serial number you do not need to reboot or even unplug the foot switch from the USB.

Bingo

SOURCE: convert ds2 file to dss

Best option is to get the person using the recorder which creates the .ds2 files, which is likely to be an Olympus DS-5000, to set the recorder to record audio in "classic mode" which will produce .dss files. Here is a YouTube video on how to set the DS-5000 to record in classic mode.

SOURCE: Olympus DSS Player Pro Woes!

There is a small utility called dssclean, which can fix these files for you. Check with your Olympus Pro dealer, as they should be able to provide that for you.
Files usually get this way when a computer or the Transcription Module crashed while a file is open. The system doesn't get a chance to close the file and it remains in "typing mode."
The other, more readily available work around, is to select the file in the Transcription Module, then go to File > Convert File and convert it to a WAV file (it actually only makes a copy of the file). You can then transcribe the WAV file and delete the locked file.

SOURCE: audio converter for dss audio files

DSS files are produced by professional voice recorders like the Olympus DS-5000 and Philips LFH-9600.

You can convert DSS Pro files (*.ds2) and DSS Classic files (*.dss) to Wave files (.wav) with DSS File Converter. The software is $19 but comes with at free 30 day trial. It is sold by PCDictate.com a great place to purchase USB foot pedals and other transcription equipment and dictation equipment

SOURCE: RS-25 foot pedal not working

The foot pedal needs to be plugged in before the software is installed. Just uninstall the software (your files will be fine) and reinstall with foot pedal attached.

I am trying to transfer files from my Hotmail account to Olympus

If they are files that someone has emailed to you, they need to first be saved in your C drive somewhere and then you can import them to the DSS software to be able to play them. They cannot be imported directly as an email attachment.

Cannot convert WMA to WAV files

The DSSPlayer software will not allow you to convert the WMA files to WAV. The recorder on SP uses .DSS as the file type and that file can be converted to WAV using DSS Player. Olympus released DSS Player 7 for VISTA and you will have to have it before the pair will work normally.

INACCURATE FILE WAS SPECIFIED Erro

You might have found out by now, this is happing because of the Windows updates back in November. An update is preventing the audio files from launching with the DSS Player. I found out that you can open the audio file by right-clicking the file and selecting open. Later releases of the Olympus software will not experience this issue.
