New Premium SolutionI already know all about the adapters you suggested. I think you missed the point of what I was looking for. I said I'm looking for a power source to provided external dc power. The boombox comes with a cable with an inverter to connect to a 120 wall outlet and that works and I use it. The boombox also hold 8 c batterys and runs but they only last less than 2 hours and if I'm out at the beach I'd need 24 batterys to run for the period I'm there. The boombox is dc power so what device can I power it with. Like I said the external connection for power on the boombox is the supplied cable that has jack connection on one end, then the inverter and then the ac/dc inverter with a cable with atwo pronged plug for connecting to a 120 wall outlet. I won't have my car anywhere near nor any other power source so what can we use to run my radio

  • getterdone2 Apr 08, 2011

does the whisler product supply power and has an internal p0wer supply or do I need to connect to external 12 volt battery.

  • getterdone2 Apr 11, 2011

No as I said originally in my request I want external device to power my boombox satelite radio at the beach on the sand. My car is nowhere near and I do not want have to have to carry three devices boombox, inverter and a 12 volt battey to the beach. Does that make any sense to you to lug out a car battery to the beach. Please try to understand the situation. Now I want an external device that is compact looks good can provide me power and easy carried. Like I"ve said previously I want it to last 6 hours or longer that would be great. Is there such a beast out there that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that will do the job.

  • getterdone2 Apr 14, 2011

no I still need a device like i said before

  • getterdone2 Apr 15, 2011

Yes that looks exactly what I'm looking. I will have to get and see it works, I will call them directly thanks again for your help.

Actually we dont sell products we offer support for them but seeings as your here let me find something for you..

this little beauty is called the Whistler PRO800 .. 12 v - 12vac

  • 800 watts continuous power
  • 1600 watts surge capacity (peak power)
  • Includes DC cables with clamps for direct battery connection
  • USB port
  • Hi-speed cooling fan
  • Ground fault sensing
  • Electronic circuit protection
and all at 7.0 amps (yep its powerful) amd as big as a small car amp. thats 10.0" x 5.75" x 3.0"
and weighs in at just over 2 lbs.

in simple terms it can power a compact refrigerator, and power tools simultaneously.. I will do wonders for your boombox.. and guess what,, Its on sale..

I think that will more than meet your needs. and my country uses it in emergencies (EMA) Emergency Management Authority. Its actually well stocked for disasters like hurricanes and floods and stuff so I have experience with it and can safely say the ones we use works really well. We use them for power tools to cut wood for emergency shelters, powering lights and medical equipment and stuff like that temporarily until we can get generators setup / incase we dont have enough generators or generators cant get there in time or at all.

Nah it doesnt. you need a 12 volt battery, on my 850 CCA DCM Car battery ,Acdelco battery, it will last almost 8 hours pushing a medical freezer and 3 lights. thats pretty good. Its recommended you start your vehicle ever so often to recharge.,, Now the life cycle of the battery on the inverter depends on the power used, with your boombox you aint using much.. it should last a lot longer.
so feel free to take your boom box and a small fridge along..

did that solve your question or do you need any more help ?

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Apr 14, 2011

closest to cheap one I could find,, 259
not as powerful as an inverter but if you have a low draw it should work just as you need it too and its light weight.

DC to AC power cord Do they still make them if so under what name or product name?

"DC to AC" cords are not really a common item. They are called "Inverters". Typical inverters are 12VDC to 120VAC and are found in mobile applications to operate houshold current type (120VAC) devices. Inverters cost many times more than thier "AC to DC" or "AC to AC" sisters.

An "AC to DC" and "AC to AC" cord however, is a very common item. They are usually called simply "AC Adapters" and are sold in many electronics stores (Best Buy, Fry's, etc.) and electronic specialty stores (Radio Shack) and electrnics suppliers (MCM, etc.) Nearly all of them are designed to reduce the voltage in your home (120 VAC volts alternating current) to a different but usually lower voltage that is either AC or DC.

In order to select the proper AC adapter, you need to know:
(1) Input Voltage - this is the outlet voltage - often 120 volts in N. America, (2) Output voltage - this is the voltage the device needs and is often indicated near the jack, The adapted must match this voltage. (3) the device voltage type - this will be either AC or DC. The adapter must match the type as they are NOT interchangeable. (4) the size and type plug on the cord that will allow it to mate properly with the jack. There are many, many types and it should be tested for fit prior to plugging in and must match the device jack (5) the power requirements - this is usually shown as a number in Watts (w) and / or Amps (a). It is very important that the apdapter power rating is equal to or greater than the amount specified by the device. Failure to meet the requirements above can cause failure of the device, adapter or both.

I hope this helps and good luck!

Unit will not work on AC power but does on batteries. Power outlet is good, power cord is good. Are there any external resets on the unit.

Not unless you see something labelled so - but power supplies don't tend to work like that!
It's either power supply circuitry thats died but it may have a replaceable long life internal fuse which a workshop (repairer) can replace, and should be real cheap to do.
Otherwise, for indoor use, to save on batteries, get a universal AC to DC adaptor. I think you'll find it has a DC IN socket somewhere about it (back or sides)

Looking for a car charger to suit a compaq presario 2500. Are they available? Thanks

Purchase a power inverter from your local electronics store (they cost about $15-20 for a 75 watt adapter). An inverter converts the 12 volts from your car to the 120 volts AC that you get from your wall outlet. You plug in your laptop's adapter into the inverter, and then you plug the inverter into your car's lighter socket.

When I press the power button to turn the unit on,

Check your cord first, make sure it's in good shape. Sometimes the main transformer goes out, and you can use a DC adapter to bypass the 120 V source. Could be a fuse, or something else in the power supply inside the unit.

I had the same problem with myRm 700, too. Solution : connect your unit into the AC power pack . Turn it on. Then reinsert an address into the unit while plugged into the 110 volt ac wall outlet power supply. You may need to repeat this operation a few times.
Also, used mine in my 18-wheeler using a ac to dc power inverter. It seemed to work everytime. Note make sure the ac to dc inverter you by has enough dc output to feed your Gps all the juice it needs. That ac to dc inverter can be used to run other ac powererd appliances, too.
