Question about Computers & Internet

I installed a 320gb hard drive in my dell latitude d600. Once complete I tried to install Window XP. I now have a "Disk read error", press contol, alt, delete. It goes thru the "DELL" screen & back to "Disk read error", press contol, alt, delete. Is there a cure for this? Please advise. Thank you.

As you are getting this error after post it self , Kindly clean your installation disk and try. Or for just testing purpose you can try any other installation disk to confirm if hdd boot sector is damage or not. Please let me know the working.

Please do not forgot to rate me. Thank You!!!!

Check your BIOS, by pressing F2 and see if the hard drive is recognized. It should indicate the MFR next to the hard drive listing. If it's not there, then you might have a bad hard drive. If it is there, try re-installing the operating system with the set-up disk. You can also go to the Dell website, enter you service tag number, and get technical support for your particular laptop. It might have a recovery partition in the hard drive to recover to factory settings.

Dell Latitude D600 with new Hitachi 30GB Drive Not Recognizing

XP install is not detecting any hard disk.
No jumpers are required for laptops, can only have one hard drive in a laptop.
Check the BIOS for the hard disk configuration, make sure that it is set on Auto (detect).
You may have a faulty hard disk, you can check it by booting up with a floppy DOS boot disk, run fdisk to see if it detects the hard disk, OR connect this hard drive to a USB hard disk adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port and if it detects it as an external drive the it is OK.

Re-installing xp

A cyclic redundancy check (CRC error) is an error checking program that is used to verify data and can be caused by hardware or software. The most common causes are bad CD disk, hard drive or memory. To run diagnostics press and hold the <Fn> key while powering the system on. This will run the Dell Diagnostics. Examine the Windows CD and see if there are any scratches or smudges on the media, try another CD disk if you have one.
