Probably its internal components have been damaged hence cannot be read. If you have sensitive data, it will cost a fortune to recover them. Else it is cheaper to buy a new one. however, id recommend you take it to a service centre first to confirm the condition of your hard drive.

My notebook fell off table, did not break externaly but now fails to detect hard drive . what can i do to fix

Hello,

Unfortunitly, you hard drive's needle may have been knocked out of wack and will not access the data anymore. 2 solutions here:

1. New hard drive and reinstall everything. (Easy)
2. Let a data recovery provider retrive the information from the damage disk and put it on a new one. (Expensive and time consuming.)

Good Luck

Odd clicking noise...

That clicking sounds if ever loud enough is one annoying symptoms of failed disc. When it accidentally drop the reader may come off the disc. It sad to say but you may consider to change your hard disc.

My 1tb disk fell from a table and it doesn'st work

Considering the fact that you can buy them from Western Digital, for an arm and a leg of coarse.  I would say look on ebay for a junk one with a bad hard drive and just swap it.  Other than that you can buy just an empty hard drive enclosure off ebay or newegg pretty cheap...around 20 bucks.  I am taking it your hard drive would probably be a SATA.  But before you buy, make sure the connectors will fit.  it will be long and skinny, which is IDE or short and skinny, SATA.

Kaput?

Probably.

Just for the heck of it, try running Maxtor diagnostic tool.
If not solving the problem, at least you'll learn more about hard drives.
