Question about Schwinn Evolution Indoor Cycling Bike

2 Answers

I have a Schwinn Revolution that squeals like a pig after turning the resistance up a bit. And the sounds does not let out. It is continuous, like a dentist drill. It feels to me, but listening to the point of origin, that it may be coming from the break pads, but what do I know? Mainly, the bike was about a year old when I bought it. It is, otherwise, in great condition. And I know the owners of the gym where I bought it from. I taught there, so I know the bikes were care for. However, I bought the squeaking one! :( Thank you!

Thank you. It is going to be a few days before I can even get near the bike to look at it. But I will check on all this, hopefully I can get someone more mechanically inclined than me to give me a hand.
I will post what we find out. I hope to be able to say we were successful.
    Thank you!

One more thing: if I were to take the bike to a professional to have to worked on, who do you recommend? I mean, can a local shop take care of this or should I got strictly with Nautilus/Schwinn people? THank you

Try lubricating first all mechanical moving parts specially the tension motor lubricate the shafting..examine for any damage bearings.

Trust your ear, it would help you pinpoint the location of the sound. It may not be on the breaks but within that area if the sound seemed to come from it. High pitch sounds may likely come from metal parts or specifically metal to metal contacts. All moving parts could be the culprit here. It may be from the bearings on the wheels especially if it warms up after use. It could also be the tensioner that gives resistance check for physical damages. The chain from the pedal to the wheel needs to be inspected.
From the inspection, those that show signs of wear or metal contact may just need adjustment or tightening of the screws or bolts. Grease may help to reduce the friction. If these do not help, you may need to have the parts replaced.

Does the schwinn recumbent 270 bike have a battery? It has an AC adaptor. The resistance will not increase when i press the higher resistance button.

It does not have a battery. Your resistance motor is most likely faulty. The only thing is, with schwinn, you will most likely have to replace the resistance motor, the console, and the wiring. All of this is very hard to find and will probably be more of a hassle than it's worth.

There is a relay which locks the doors after you begin to drive. When this guy goes bad it squeals like a pig! This happened on my 2000 Concorde and we had it replaced at the shop for about $100.
