Help! IBM 5394 Problem

By Ross - usenet poster

Trying to make an IBM 5394 controller work over a v.35 connection using two
cisco routers over Frame Relay.

I have both IDEA Concert 10394-16 (5394 clone) and IBM 5394-01B.

Both work over v.24, and the IDEA works over v.35 (with appropriate cable
changes and AS/400 line description changes).  All three scenarios (IDEA
v.24 & v.35 and IBM v.24) work over both modem eliminators and the actual
router/frame setup.  The IBM 5394 v.35 does not work either with a modem
eliminator or over the router/frame connection.  The IBM 5394 is of "high
serial number" (>55000).  It just stays at vary on pending.

Can anyone offer some insight?

Thanks in advance,

Actually, the 5394-02A and 02B are the X.21 versions of the 5394-01A and 01B.  The A models support up to
four twinax devices and the B models up to sixteen.

All of the 5394-01 models support V.24 with the appropriate cable.  Those with a serial number above
55000 also support V.35 but they require a special V.35 cable.

The high serial numbers also have a higher internal memory capacity and can support a software PRPQ that
allows them to be configured similar to a 5494.  We have several 5394's with this PRPQ attached to WAN
ports of remote  routers.

I will check with the router people but since I have the IDEA working both
ways (v.24 & v.35) and the IBM working in v.24, I assume whatever router
software is correctly configured.

Any other ideas?

Sorry ! I've read your question wrong ! If your 5394 works with the V.24, it
has nothing to do with the router setup !

My mistake - Sorry !

Hello
The 5394-01B support line speed to 19.200bps. but I'm not sure if it's
supports V.35. There are a controller (5394-02B) that support a higher
line speed and can handle V.35.

Best regards

Hi !

Is the routers configured with DLSw (Data-link Switching) ?

DLSw is a method to pack SNA into TCP/IP !
