I have a Casio fx-83wab. How do I calculate to the power of a fraction? So a number to the power of 1/3 for instance - I've tried the x-1 button with the fraction in brackets after it but that comes up as...

Use the general power key that is marked as [^], [Y^x] or [X^y]. Enclose the fractional exponent (1/3) in parentheses.
You can also look for a general root key, marked as [x Root]. To use this key, press the root index (3 for example), followed by [x Root] and then enter the argument. If the index of the root is even ( 2, 4, 6, ...) the argument (inside the root) must be a positive number.

How do i solve this factorial equation? 8!/5!x3!

How to calculate 8!/(5!3!)?
For small numbers (8,5,3) you can use the factorial function key (I will tell you later how to access it) and enter 8! divided by 5!, divided by 3! For numbers greater than or equal to 70 you cannot calculate the factorial: the result is too large for the calculator's memory.

However the formula you wrote is an instance of a combination 8C5 or 8C3 (they have the same value.
Most scientific calculator have three functions: the n Factorial n!, the Combination function nCr and the permutation function nPr.

  1. Turn Calculator ON
  2. Select the Run icon and press EXE.
  3. In Run Screen Press the OPTN key
  4. Press F6> to pan to the other tabs
  5. Press F3:Prob
The first tab (F1) is marked x!.That is the factorial.
The tab (F2) is marked nPr is for the permutations
The tab (F3) is marked nCr and it corresponds to the combinations.

To use nPr or nCr you enter the larger number n, you press the F key under nPr or nCr. If you press F2 you see a fat P, if you press F3 you see a fat C. Complete by entering the value of r (the smaller number)
If your problem corresponds to Select 8 objects, 5 at a time regardless or order (combinations) you type 8 F3 5 and EXE Result is 56.

I want to know how to use the function button

The function button, or FN button, is used just like the shift key or ctrl key. Hold the FN button down and press the key with the pre programmed function you desire to use. For instance, on an HP 1245 the function or short cut key to put the computer in sleep mode is FN+F5. The Keys with functions have that feature indicated by a symbol for the function in a squared circle. Most of these are your F keys at the very top row of the keyboard. Some are on the number pad keys.

I have a new HP keyboard which seems to have three or four choices for upper and lower case. For instance, the number 6 key has a choice of 6 or ? or several other designs likw an arrowhead which I cannot...

Keyboards can have various functions for each key that are enabled by first pressing a modifier key. Some keyboards may have an Fn key that stands for 'Function' that are identified by a bluish-purple color.

You would have to hold down the Fn key before being able to use the corresponding function.

Other keys may have items that can only be used once you press the NmLk (Number Lock) key. Usually you only have to press the NmLk key once to enable these alternate functions and then press it again to disable.

In my key board m button tyed show 0 why

You probably have Number-lock active, test and see; u = 4, i = 5, o = 6, j = 1, k = 2 and l = 3.

On the bottom left of your keyboard you should find a key marked Fn. On the top right of your keyboard you should find a key marked Num LK. While pressing the Fn key, press the Num LK key once. this should unlock the number keys and allow you to type letters again.

Good luck ;)
