Start the machine in "safe mode" by tapping F8 during startup on the black screen where it says "press delete to enter setup" select "safe mode with networking". When the pc starts, go online and google "Download malwarebytes" download and install malwarebytes. allow it to update itself and then run a full system scan. It will find hundreds of malware, trojans and worms. click remove infected and restart the machine in safe mode again, this time without networking. load malwarebytes again and click the Quarantine tab at the top then click "delete all". Restart the pc normally if the infection is still there, write down the name of this antivirus it wants you to buy. restart the pc in safe mode with networking again and google the name of the software. you should be able to find details of this software from somewhere like whatthetech.com . (the software itself is actually the main virus and it funnels other nasties into your system) the details you find should be things like the name of the .exe file which causes the program to start. Search your hard disk(s) for the .exe file or the name of the software. when the search finds a file, click "open containing folder" and delete everything in that folder. Anything that won't delete, move elsewhere and rename. Finally, restart your pc normally and run malwarebytes again.
This, after spending quite a while searching for the files on the HDD, will cure your problem.
Good luck.

When i turn on the net book it asks to allow a program from the hard drive this turns out to be Antivirus 8, we already have an antivirus software. This will not allow us to do anything on the computer...

Hi

See if you can start up in safe mode poss F8 on startup and if you can get in go to control panel add remove programmess then look for the antivirus and uninstall it and if it works and the computer is running ok again ( with some luck ) i would then go and set a restore point of your own and call it something that you will remember maybe all good or after removing antivirus

then if you have this prob again you can go to system restore and take it back to there

My friend had a very similar problem only a few weeks ago and the only way that we could get rid of the darn thing was to pretend that we were gonna buy the darn thing so that it would kindly allow us to do anything on the computer then when it opened the webpage i managed to navagate to the control panel and remove it

one has to be very very carefull when downloading software or anything from the internet
we must always take each step at a time reading the things that they are offering and most cases we need to take the ticks out of such things that we dont want

good luck with it i had a big fight to get rid

The only thing that comes up is a Red Cross Antivirus window, cant seem to remove it. I already have an antivirus downloaded.

Red Cross Antivirus is a rogue anti-virus program that is installed via the Fake Microsoft Security Essentials Alert Trojan. This rogue is installed via a fake Microsoft Security Essentials alert that states you are infected and then prompts you to install 1 of 5 rogues, including Red Cross Antivirus. When the program is installed it will reboot your computer and start before you see the Windows desktop. It will then scan your computer and state that there are numerous infected files found, but will state that it will not be able to clean some of them as it requires the heuristics module in order fix them. In order to activate this heuristic module you will need to first purchase the program. This is a scam, though, as none of the files it states are viruses are actually infected.
Go to TrendMicro.com and run a free online virus scan to eliminate this rogue.

What is symantec antivirus??????????

Symantec/Norton AntiVirus (SAV for Windows, NAV for Mac OS X) is a virus protection program distributed by the Symantec Corporation, offering effective protection features, including infected file quarantine, online virus protection updates, and an automatic scheduler. SAV/NAV is designed to start running as soon as your computer's operating system starts. It runs in the background, checking all vulnerable files for possible infection by malevolent programs called viruses and worms. SAV/NAV does this by looking for the identifying signatures of these worms and viruses and comparing them to known viruses for which it has files. When it detects an infected file, it notifies you and manages the infection according to your preferences.

I have an older Dell 8100 that is infected, I cannot use it.

It might be really what it says, but chances are you have accidentally started a "fake virus scam" malware, that acts a bit like a virus, but with an added function of luring you into paying for some miraculous anti-virus, that will cure your computer of the multiple "infections" it has allegedly "discovered".
If you can open Internet Explorer, you may try one of the online virus scanners available. If not, the only thing left is to prepare on a clean computer a startup antivirus CD, from which you could boot your computer and run an antivirus program.

Free Online scanners:
http://www.f-secure.com/en_EMEA/security/tools/online-scanner/
http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html

Free boot antivirus products (CD image to burn):
http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/RescueDisk/
http://dlpro.antivir.com/package/rescue_system/common/en/rescue_system-common-en.iso

Please come back with a testimonial if helped :)

Pop up saying you have a virus, i try to go online, or into properties and it keep saying, wmiadap.exe is infected. It always pop up to buy antivirus software.

It seems as if you have downloaded a spyware program such as a wallpaper which has caused you to have a fake antivirus 2009 running. Make an Ultimate Boot CD and run every AV tool and spyware/malware that was on the CD. After running all the tools install your XP SP2 CD to repair the installation Download and run hijack this to see if still have the virus lurking on the computer.

Windows is telling me i have a spyware infection and a trojan infection but norton wont load and im unable to perform a scan to find this?

I would like more details, such as; What OS, how is Windows telling you this, what is it telling you exactly, the name of the program that tries to load without you asking it to.

I already suspect that you are infected with a trojan horse program, it might be called various names.
One of the more common ones is Antivirus XP 2008. This is a fake program, they only want to get your credit info. Don't give them anything, if you already have, cancel it.

The other symptoms are; that you cannot open the control panel, change your screen background, go to Microsoft Update, as well as many other places.

Trend Micro Antivirus/Vista Antivirus 2008

Hello there.

Unfortunately you have been infected, by the software called "Vista Antivirus 2008". What this software does is infect you, then prompt you to pay to remove the infection that it installed. So it is a scam.

What i would recommend is use the uninstall instructions from here http://www.windowsvistaplace.com/xp-antivirus-2008-removal-instructions-xp-antivirus-2008/spyware-removal

This will remove the infection (and others) from your system.

Once you have completed the steps, be sure to try an online scanner such as housecall here http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
This will not conflict with your already-installed Trend Micro software, it mearly runs through your web browser.

On that note, Internet Explorer is not very safe for browsing the Internet with, i would recommend either Firefox or Opera for a safer/better browsing experience.

Hope this helps.

Ads keep popping up when am online and offline, I have warning tabs saying that I have been infected with spyware. I am on verizon fios network and have virus scan and spyware removal tools that I used,...

Hello there.

Virus and spyware problems are very popular unfortunately, most tools are unable to find and repair all problems, so its best to try alternative methods to remove the most stubbern infections.

I suggest using an online scanner, something like http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/housecall . Open this address and click "Launch Housecall free scan". This will download the files needed through your web browser and run a scan without actually installing the antivirus package in windows. It wont interfere with existing antivirus / antispyware software.

If you cannot remove all infections, then please show us a screenshot or a list of the infections from the scan end page and we will assist.

Hope this helps.
