Yes, you have to reinstall the driver and try again.. and before that please check how many audio drivers already installed.. if more than 1 just go to right click on the speaker symbol in your task bar and go to playback devices and change default devise at there.. hope it will work for you..

Based on sybabe solution,That leaves me with :
1-The built in Mic element has gone bad or
2- The contacts in 3.5 mm internal jack port are not fully closed when an external mic is not present.

Try this >>>>> right click on the speaker icon in the system tray (bottom right hand side) select open volume control, when the window pops up, click on the options tab and select properties and check all the boxes has a tick in them (including the mic) then save you will now see the microphone properties make sure it not muted and the level is fairly high.
you should now be able to hear each other.
