Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

My transcend storejet 500 GB hard disk not detected by pc

Check to see if it shows up in "Disk Management".
Right-click My Computer >> Manage >> Disk Management.

If so, it may need to be formatted.

To format: Right-Click volume, and select format.

Buy a new hard drive, and start over.
www.newegg.com You want a 3.5 ATA (not SATA) hard drive somewhere around 500 GB 7200 RPM not 5400 RPM. Something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136109

Try connecting this to another PC, see if the files are shown then. One drastic solution is to quick format the drive then use a file recovery utility to recover a format. BEFORE doing this as a LAST resort, if the device is recognised in Explorer on your comp or another machine, run a disc check utility such as HDD tune or similar and see if the drive is throwing up a RSA error or has bad sectors. If you Can access your data in the meantime, I'd pull it off quickly. Only go for the reformat / recover option as a last resort though..

Fat32 has never been the safest format to use with windows xp. Try using a NTFS formatter or even the windows bootable disc would work.

If you're using the original XP version it wasn't able to format the correct size of the hard drives. You need to find a version with Service Pack 2 and boot off that CD in order to format the correct size of the drives. You could also boot off a Vista installation CD and format the correct size.

WD 500 GB Passport Formatting error

you may have a FAT32/NTFS format problem between your wd500 and your pc. or differently formatted partitions. right click on their device letters on 'my computer' and look at 'properties'. should tell you how they're formatted and # of partitions, etc.

It may be in raw format. Go to Control Panel-Administrative Tools- Computer Management- Disk Management. It will show all your drives and their formats. You can format from there if you need to.

You will need to format the device for Windows use. If you can see the device in My Computer, right click it and select format. if you can't see it in My Computer, you will need to use a boot tool such as Gparted: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
Download the .iso file and burn it as an image to a cd, then boot from the CD at startup. It should detect the 500 Gb drive and allow you to format it to NTFS. Then Windows will recognize it.
