You may be able to reset your wireless router back to the default settings by pressing the RESET button at the back of the router.
If you provide me with the make and model of your wireless router, then I can give you more precise details on resetting your router.

I have a D-Link wireless N 300 Router DIR-615 I canot get the password to work to add more items to work with my router yes it has a reset button and i have pushed it..

Check the label under or at the back of the router for the default user name and password.. If you can't connect with this information try a reset ... hold the reset button in for 30 seconds to attempt a reset. If unsuccessful try again but also hold the button in while unplugging and reconnecting the AC adaptor at the back of the unit. If it still fails to reset after trying this a few times the unit may have a hardware failure.

My connection is not secure and I tried to change but I canot see my preshared key. Looks like someone erased this; what can i do to retreive it?

Log on to the router maintenance page by typing 192.168.2.1 into your web browser address bar. Select Security settings. Here you can change the security key.

If you have a password set to access the maintenance functions you will be required to enter it before being allowed to change settings. If you have not set a password just leave the feild blank.

If you cannot access the maintenance functions, because you cannot connect or you have forgotten the password, then you should connect a PC to the router via an ethernet cable, reset the router to factory settings (there is a small button on the router to do this) and set up the router again from scratch.

I have a d-link router, how do I configure a password protection so neighbors or others cannot access my info.

Is there any computer connected to the router ?
If not then you will need to connect the computer to the router.
Do not change any wireless settings on the router with the wireless computer.
you will need to connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable.
check the IP address of the computer.
open the router set up page of the router.
Here you can change the wireless settings of the router.
Now once you change the network anme and security on the router, you will need to connect to the wireless network on your wireless computers.

Netgear Wireless - G USB 2.0 Adapter

Hello, Joe.

Assuming Sky doesn't prevent access to non-sky internet services (if they did something crazy like that, it is most likely a Sky specific firmware that was put on the router, which would mean you need to put the Netgear firmware back on), I would say you have something set up wrong.

Can you get to the internet through a wired connection? If so, wireless is probably configured wrong. If you can log into the router, that would give you an easy way to find out how thw wireless is set up. goto your web browser (on a wired connection to the router) and type "192.168.1.1" or "192.168.0.1" When prompted, type in your username and password (probably, "admin" and "sky" or "admin" and "admin").

If you can't log into the router then you'll have to try and figure out the connection through trial and error. When you were with Sky and the tech installed your router, did he/she give you an encryption key to use when you connected? If so, I would try "shared WEP" first (providing the WEP key given to you). If that doesn't work, try WPA-PSK.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Hi Guest….not sure why this issue is occurring, but this is what I would do:

1. Connect to router via Ethernet cable (not wireless)

2. Try 1234 instead of password

3. Ensure caps lock is off (OK, it’s an old one, but it can happen)

4. If the router came from your ISP, check their website – sometimes they install their own firmware and default password (eg, UK Sky users - try password sky)

5. Reboot your router, then see if it accepts the defaults

6. If you bought the router new, it's fresh out of the box, and you’re setting it up – and the defaults don’t work - contact Netgear

7. If anyone else set up the router, or you bought it second-hand, or you think the password has changed and you don't know the new password- it’s time to consider a hard reset.

This is a last resort, as it will clear all settings and cut off your internet connection, until you set up the router again. A hard reset is only recommended for experienced users (ie if you set up your own router in the first place). However, if this doesn’t restore defaults either, contact Netgear.

Good luck whatever you decide to do.

I canot conect wirelessly from my laptop to router

ohhh!!! ok, well then just go to your browser and type in "http://192.168.0.1" and if that doesnt work go here
http://www.routerlogin.com/CA_HiddenPage.htm

it should ask you for a username and password

user name should be " admin " and password should be " password" by default. if it was changed your gonna have to find out what the user names and stuff are, you should be able to find out what the key is from their, or change it.

Wireless network card & sky broadband wireless router

Here are some troubleshooting steps that I suggest you try:

1. Check physical connections.

a. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router. The Internet “i” LED on the front of the router should light up.
b. Connect the computer to one of the four LAN ports (i.e port 1, 2, 3 or 4) on the back of the router. The corresponding port light where you connected the computer should be lit up.

2. Access the router's web-based utility.

a. Please open any web browser like Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.
b. Connect to the router by typing http://routerlogin.com/basicsetting.htm or http://192.168.1.1 in the address field and click Enter or Return key.
c. A window will prompt for a user name and password. By default, the user name is "admin" and the password is "password".

Note: If you were unable to access the router's web-based utility, you may reset the router to restore the settings to factory default.

To reset the router:

a. Please push the reset button at the back of the router and release after 30 seconds.
b. Unplug the power adapter for 10 seconds and then plug it back in.

3. Configure the router.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a cable connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings under Setup tab.
b. Select No for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Scroll down on the center page and look for the Router MAC Address section. Set it to Use computer MAC address and click on the Apply button.

If your Internet Service Provider is using a DSL connection, please follow the steps below:

a. Click on Basic Settings.
b. Select Yes for Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?.
c. Select Other on the Internet Service Provider drop down box.
d. Enter your ISP's username (username@ISPdomain) and password. Then, click on Apply.

4. Configure the wireless settings.

a. Click on the Wireless Settings under Setup.
b. Change the SSID to any unique name.
c. Scroll down, look for the Security Options settings and select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
d. Set the Authentication type to "Automatic" and the Encryption Strength to "64bit".
e. Leave the Passphrase field blank, select Key 1 and enter a 10-digit number.

Note: The 10-digit number you typed in the key 1 will be the password or network key for the wireless connection.

f. Click Apply button to save the changes.
g. Go to Router Status under Maintenance tab and check if there is an IP address under Internet port. If it's 0.0.0.0, do a power cycle.

5. Power cycle.

a. Power off the modem, router and computers.
b. Turn on the power of the modem first and wait for it to initialize, the lights to stop blinking.
c. Power back the router and the computers. Check if it will be able to get online.

If you have wireless computers, you can connect them wireless to the router. Kindly follow the instructions below:

6. Connect wireless computer to the router.

If you are using Windows XP with Service Pack 1, please follow the steps below:

a. Please right click on the Wireless icon on the right lower end portion of your computer.

If you are using Windows Vista, please follow the steps below:

a. Click Start then select Connect To.
b. Connect to a network window will show up.
c. Select your wireless network and click Connect.
d. It will ask you for a network key. Type in the network key and confirm it. Then click on Connect.

Use "free" Sky broadband setup disk to automate and save username, password, network connection, LAN/wireless properties, MAC, IP, subnet, gateway, etc on her computer, exactly as your own working system. Change her computer's IP address last digit next available number up or down: yours 192.168.1.1, hers 192.168.1.2 etc.
