Question about Cameras

2 Answers

Hi, Our daughter has a Samsung ES30 12.2 megapixel camera. I just put a new sd card in and it says Card Error, When you click on OK, it tells you to 1. Turn the camera off and on again, 2. remove and reinstall the card, 3. Format the card - see instructions. I have tried the first 2. It only came with a Quick Start Manual which tells you nothing about formatting. Also the camera is locked and you can not access the menu. I have tried connecting the camera to the computer but to no avail. What else can I try! Thanks for your time.

Hi, I just tried that trick but it didn't work! PS I used a card reader to connect to the computer and I chose the quick format option as I could not see any other. Do you have any other suggestions! Thanks.

Hi, I am about to sign off and I will be back tomorrow! Before I go, I just looked at the old sd card and the new one. The new one says Class 4, The old one doesn't say but it has a 2 inside of a circle, which may mean Class 2. Would this have any thing to do with our problem? Thanks again for your time. Darryl.

Hi, The old memory card is full, and no it does not give any error messages. It is quite ok, which means the camera is ok.

Hi, Thanks for replying! I did try that last night, the camera would not show up on the screen or acknowledge the connection; so I used the card reader and formatted once, then retried it in the camera but to no avail. So, I re connected the card reader and formatted 3 times in a row but no good either! I returned the card to the store and exchanged it for a Class 2 and everything is fine. Now I know that in future I should check the cards because an SD card can be more than one type, Which I didn't realize before!

Some cameras allow you to format the card from the computer. To do this, connect the USB cable of the camera reader to a computer. When you do that the memory card wil appear as a drive in my computer. Just right-click on it and click format. Choose the type of format as "Quick format" and click the start format button. Safely remove the hardware and see if the issue is resolved. Otherwise you can just insert the card into a card reader and follow the formatting procedure mentioned above . If you do not have a card-reader, you can purchase one at your local computer or mobile phone store for about 5-10$. I recommend that you get a multi card reader that can read various types of cards

Ok so you bought the wrong type of card. But why did you give me a bad rating?

  • Darryl Traves Apr 06, 2011

Hi, I did not know that there were different types of cards, I have always purchased from the one shop but this time I went to a different shop because I was closer? I don't believe that I give you a bad rating as my computer screen is showing me a rating of "Somewhat Helpful" and I selected that because the solution you gave may have helped someone else but it could not fix this problem, this time; and also the guy in the electronics shop said that the camera our daughter has should run any of the available cards on the market, so I don't know, who really knows(I talked to two different sales people in two days and neither one was certain! These are the people that I go to for products and advice and I expect that they should know more than me but I am no longer sure of that!) and I was not going to replace the other card with the same type, thinking I may have just had a bad one in a batch.! If the rating on your screen differs from "Somewhat Helpful" , please let me know and I will follow it through. But whatever is going on between cameras and cards, I don't know ; but I am grateful for your time and advice and it has never been my intention to give anyone a bad wrap, who offers help and advice to me. Thank you once again. Darryl.

Hi,
You need to format the card.
Insert the memory card into the system and this will be displayed as the mass storage device in my computer. Right click over the removable disk and then click format. It will format the memory card.
Then insert the memory card into the camera. Now the camera will not show the error message.

Hope this helps.

    Hi,

Are you getting any error message if you are using Class 2 memory card that is old one?

  • Darryl Traves Apr 06, 2011

Hi Shane, I just wanted to clarify something with you! FixYa reposted the problem to somebody else! I did not initiate that at all, this is the second time that this has happened to me and somebody else! I don't know if I am doing something wrong? There are three options to respond to people a. Add a comment, b. reply, c. Continue working with this expert! I may be choosing the wrong one or maybe because I am not sitting at the computer all the time and I am happy to solve the problem over a couple of days, not instantly! I don't know what is the cause but if it is me, it is unintentional.! Thank you once again for your time and advice! Darryl. P.S. I don't really know if the problem is with the class 4 or class 2 cards but we have a card that works now that I swapped it over!

Fix memory error message on camera

Hi there! Make sure the SD card is not locked. There is a tiny slider on the side. If is in the "down" position, the card cannot have new files saved to it. Move the slide to the "up" position, then reinsert the card.

If the slider is very loose, it's possible that inserting it into the camera slides it down, essentially making it useless. I have one like that. You could try a touch of superglue to make the slider harder to move, but I have never tried this and you would need to be very careful not to use too much, and to make sure it's entirely dry before putting it in your camera. Perhaps try a different memory card?

Normally, you can only insert an SD card one way. Try a different SD card or check to see if the SD card you're using has the "write protect" switch on. If that's not the issue try formatting the card in your PC and then format it in the camera.

Gateway digital camera DC-T50 5.25 megapixels put new memory card and a card error message appears

The camera uses SD cards. I assume your new card is 8GB, not 8MB as you stated. If this is the case, it's an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work in the SD-only camera. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.
You may download a copy of the manual here.

'Check SD Card' message

Looking at the manual Samsung only guarantee support for cards up to 1GB so I guess your new card won't work in this camera. Perhaps you can take the card & camera to your supplier and try other manufacturer's cards or just lower capacity.
