You need to check the OUTPUTS of the power supply after the cap replacements. If those are reading out ok...then check the BN_on 5v line going to the backlight inverter. After that check the 3.5v or 5v going to the mainboard. You have a fault some where on a major component or it woudn't be turning off on you. Also, try UN-plugging the backlight inverter. If you hear sound and the tv says on...you need a new inverter!

Thanks. Let me know how it goes! please rate!!!!!!!

As experts we need specifics of what you have tried. Also, we need specifics of the testing you have done AFTER the repair. We can't possibly know what you have and have not tried until you get specific examples of what you have done. Just saying, "tried caps and joints" won't get us anywhere. Primary of secondary on the powersupply? What value caps, on what line (24v? 12v?)? You can only get as good of an answer based off the question supplied and details supplied. "Not what I expected" is from the lack of imformation you are providing.

Normally faulty capacitors are the culprit for this issue. Make sure all bulging or leaking capacitors are replaced. Check also for loose connections or burned parts or parts that have a burned smell while the power is not connected. It could also be a software issue, your sleep timer may not be working but this can be rare. You may want to play with this to test.

It may be the power supply circuit itself that needs replacing. Other parts when faulty may still allow the TV to run. Faulty parts that would let the entire unit over heat or burn out would trigger the shut down.

The fault may be with the power supply circuit. This is the first circuit that is internally connected to the power cable. This converts regular house voltage of 220v/110v to a usable volt by the rest of the circuit like 12v, 5v, etc. This is most especially true when the issue coincides with loss of voltage going out of the circuit.

Other reasons is that flat panel CRT TVs shut down because 'X-ray' circuit detected high voltage on the x ray line. This is caused by faulty power supply (as mentioned above) or bad CRT which is leaking transparent oil. The circuits surrounding the CRT connected to each other may be faulty which may have been damaged by the voltage issue in the first place. The said reasons are more complicated and is expensive to replace.

This will likely be the capacitor to the motor. A cheap & common fault to fix. With the door open and the timer set spin the drum by hand and close the door the cycle shouldvstart and your drum will then turn. Sure sign your capacitors blown.

LCD FAULT

Fault with its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Gateway p42m403 comes on for 30 mins then goes off will not come back on Found 5 100v 2200uf caps some buging on top .Is this a common fault

Yes that is main cause of the fault, because bulging capacitor is producing a low and unfiltered dc output that causes your unit malfunction, this bad capacitor is producing current but not enough to power up your unit sometimes you will hear some clicking noise that is the relay.
ekcnoel_46.jpg This is bulging capacitor and already leaky but common leaky capacitor starts at the bottom if you notice some wet mark under or at the bottom of the capacitor replace them, and also observe the solder part of the PCB because when this capacitor leak sometimes the electrolite gasses damage the solder part of the PCB to remove this electrolite gasses in the PCB you should use a laquer thinner and use a toothbrush to clean the affected part and let dry before resoldering the dry joints.

Tv will ot come on

This kind of symptoms is cause by faulty(leaky/dried) electrolytic capacitor in the power supply section. In the first stage of symptoms warm up will make itself stable and the unit will power up after a few attempt of plugging and unplugging from the outlet but it will get worst, time will come that the unit will not power up at all.

Leaky capacitor has a physical indication of fault like bulged/dome at the top and can be easily identify like in the sample picture below.

Leaky capacitor with dome at the top.

Dried capacitor has no physical indication of fault, you must have a capacitor checker to determine its condition, if not available you should replace all electrolytic capacitor in the power supply section. It will not cost you much because it is one of the cheapest parts on that board.

When I got this it worked now when i press the power button the power light comes on dim and goes out right away. I have tried changing the batteries and no joy. Any help would be great.

Hi, Quit a few of these NV monoculars don't have auto shut offs. So the switch on you NV unit is a momentary switch--that is as long as you push on the switch the unit will stay on. Once released the on/off switch, image will start fading because the capacitors are discharging there current to a point where image in the tube has clasped. stewbison
