SOURCE: External USB Hard Disk is 120GB is not dected in winxp pc.

There are two possibilities:

The Mybook USB/ATA controller board is faulty.
In this case you can simply take apart the enclosure and mount the disk into a new enclosure. WD Mybooks are SATA, but double check the hard disk connector to ensure.

The hard disk inside is faulty.
In this case repair may be expensive. You need to locate a data recovery facility with a 'clean room' , the cost is usually more than $800.

If this happened after a power surge, then the problem is most likely a faulty controller board.

If instead you have dropped the hard disk it is possible an hard drive failure, in that case repair will be expensive.

A replacement enclosure will stfrom art about $20 on Ebay or Amazon, and must not necessarily be WD .
Check if your disk is Sata or PATA (IDE) before buying the enclosure.

SOURCE: when I connect my seagate expansion external hard

either an issue with the hard disk, or with your system. Make sure the hard disk has power on it and if you can, it would help to test it on another computer to confirm if it works. If you have ruled out the possibility that it is the hard disk, next is review if the hard disk has system requirements you need to meet. If the requirements are met by your XP SP2 machine, you may try updating the computer's system software/chipset drivers and a BIOS update may also be necessary.

My portable toshiba 500GB HD drive cant be detected by the computer. You hear the click sound my times like its trying to access it but nothing shows. Also the light is blinking.

That's the click of death - the actual hard disk inside the drive is damaged. The disk is dead, unfixable. Either just buy a complete new unit or dismantle it and replace the actual hard disk with a new one.

make sure the lead/s that attach to this drive have a secure seating and are not bad/faulty the light on only tells that its getting power it might not be getting enough power you might test the lead/s or
just replace the cable of the hard disk, when you plugged the external disk drive you got that windows could recognize the USB device change the cable everything should work fine again, sometimes the wires inside the cable will be damaged due to bending or stretching or placing heavy equipment upon the cable,
hope this helps

Toshiba 500gb hard drive is not visible on my computer, the hard drive has a light but it is showing on my computer

Go to computer management by right clicking 'my computer' then selecting 'manage'. Then select disk management. Find your externel hard drive there ( it should be there). Then right click on it, and choose assign drive letter. Just choose a letter in the middle of the alphabet like N or O, then enter. You should see the icon of your external hard drive inside 'my computer'.

Light on front just blinks

this could be for several reasons. Normally a light blinking on a hard drive is to say that the disk is being accessed. but if it happnes for a long period of time, then you might have a issue with the disk itself.

i suggest that you try the device on another PC, a friends or relatives. if you have the same problem , i am afraid that you might have a disk error
