    Hi,
what do you mean by black screen ?

is it completely black or blank ?

blank - backlight would be On. This is similar to the "blank" screensaver. you might be able to see lights on the edges of the screen.

black - compeltely black. similar to when computer is switched off.

P.S. is it laptop or desktop ?

I had the same prob first get a flash light can you still see the windows? if yes then you have a faulty lcd backlight inverter board. same thing happend to me first i changed the lcd cause it had bleeding horizantal lines. so i know the screen was bad then it worked fine but then the screen stared to black after a few minute alternat 5 or 10 minutes then it never came back so i did reaserch and decided to replace the lcd back light inverter board about 49 dollars brand new then i replaced itt and walla perfect.

Did you leave it connected to external monitor for sometime.?

coz, external monitor does not come up until the computer gets to the login screen.

Do you see any activity on harddisk light when switched on ?

If not, the problem is with the board.

One way to test it is to connect a monitor to the VGA port (make sure to activate the external monitor (Fn+monitor key)
If it does work on the external monitor, I would look at replacing the onboard LCD.
If it doesn't, you are looking at problems with the onbaord video.

What would cause my screen to go black and then can't reboot 8.1 on dell pc??

If this is a Laptop, remove battery, Plug in charger to PC and then try to reboot. A bad battery will suck all the power from charger and won't allow the computer to have enough power to boot.

hi the cause is screen back light not working properly. you need to remove the back cover of the monitor to access the internal part of the monitor. then look for the connector of the cold cathode fluorescent tube back light going to the power inverter board of the back light you will noticed a dry joints which cause a loose connection that is why you hear a sound that cause of spark. you need to re soldered the connector or replaced if totally burned.

It is likely that the backlight went out on the screen. This model has an LED backlight and can be replaced. If you are mechanically inclined, you can purchase a new one on ebay or amazon and replace. If this is a motherboard problem, then it is likely not worth fixing. One way to tell is to see if the screen is completely black. To test, turn on the computer and go near a bright light source. if you can barely make out any image on the screen, then the LED backlight is bad. If the screen is as dark as it is when the computer is off, then it is likely the motherboard.

Try draining the flea power first

1. Remove the battery and ac adapter
2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
3. Put back the battery and ac adapter
4. Turn on the computer

check if it will boot to windows, if not, there is a problem with your windows OS, try using startup repair. Hope this helps

MX6448 won't boot; black screen.

It seems that you don't remove the battery when you use the Notebook. This practice shortens the life of the battery because, when you use the a/c adapter and the battery, your battery is alternately charging and discharging all the time. The cells in the battery eventually die.

From what you describe, it sounds like the power strip inside the Notebook (where you plug in the adapter cord) has been damaged and needs to be replaced.

Your computer is not a total loss. Just have that power strip and the battery replaced and your Notebook should be up and running again.

And, in the future, if you just remove the battery when your kid uses the computer, or if you are going to be using it for over 1 hour. Save the battery to use when you need the mobility.

Screen went black

Hi, could be anything to do with video. Might be the on board video card or its memory. It is also possible that your display lost its back lite and you just can see the display. Try turning the laptop on normally and let it run for a while. Try tilting the display left right up down as if trying to gaze at the inside of the display. If you can see faint traces of your desktop then it is definitely the back lite, if none then something else is at fault. Either way you will have to bring it back for repairs or replacement. You can also try checking the memory by sliding out the panel cover at the bottom of the casing. There might be a screw or two locking the cover panel in place. Try wiggling the memory a bit, might have loosen up somehow. If still a no go, then perhaps you're really better off sending it back for repairs/replacement. Hope this works out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Good luck and kind regards.
