Check for an internal fuse blown near where power comes into box. Sometimes they're soldered on, and be very careful working around 120V AC line in.

Tip

Firmware

Hello

This is a tip, explaining what exactly Firmware is, and where you will be able to find firmware updates for your deice.

What is Firmware?

Basically firmware is the heart of all popular digital devices. The concept of firmware has evolved to mean almost any programmable content of a hardware device, not only machine code for a processor, but also configurations and data for application specific integrated circuits(ASICs), programmable logic devices etc.(Web definition)

In the past, very little products actually had the option to Upgrade the firmware. When the firmware became outdated, the only option was to buy a new product. New firmware enables your device to be compatible with the latest hardware changes, hence, no limitations due to hardware capabilities. It is very useful to always have the latest firmware version flashed.

Where to download?

Firstly, it depend on the product you are using. Usually the manufacturer have firmware updates available on the homepage. The manufacturer will also provide you with step by step instructions on how to update uyour Firmware.

At the links below you will be able to download the latest firmware version for your device. Just click on the link to navigate to the download page. Enjoy the benefits!

If your device manufacturer is not listed, just click HERE to direct to google. Once directed, just Google( "Manufacturer" firmware update)

If you were directed to download page, choose your model. You will be given step by step instructions on how to update the firmware of your device. In some cases you might need some additional cables to proceed with the update.

I really hope this can be of help. Please rate accordingly.

Kind regards
Andrea

Sylvania mp3 driver

What is the model of the player? Most players do not need a driver when hooked to a pc. Windows will normally do a scan when you plug it into your pc and/ or open a window to the device in most cases. Some mp3 players have updates for firmware which maybe what you are looking for exactly. I would consider check Sylvania's website for this info. ... Ok so what is firmware and what does it do? Flashing (or flashing firmware[4]) refers to the overwriting of existing firmware or data on ROM modules present in an electronic device with new data. The firmware contained in devices provides the control program for the device. Firmware is held in non-volatile memory devices. Changing the firmware of a device may rarely or never be done during its economic lifetime; some firmware memory devices are permanently installed and cannot be changed after manufacture. Common reasons for updating firmware include fixing bugs or adding features to the device. To find out more go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware

How do i download missing firmware for ubuntu

Loading Missing Firmware As described in the section called "Devices Requiring Firmware", some devices require firmware to be loaded. In most cases the device will not work at all if the firmware is not available; sometimes basic functionality is not impaired if it is missing and the firmware is only needed to enable additional features.
If a device driver requests firmware that is not available, debian-installer will display a dialog offering to load the missing firmware. If this option is selected, debian-installer will scan available devices for either loose firmware files or packages containing firmware. If found, the firmware will be copied to the correct location (/lib/firmware) and the driver module will be reloaded.
note.png Which devices are scanned and which file systems are supported depends on the architecture, the installation method and the stage of the installation. Especially during the early stages of the installation, loading the firmware is most likely to succeed from a FAT-formatted floppy disk or USB stick.
Note that it is possible to skip loading the firmware if you know the device will also function without it, or if the device is not needed during the installation.
warning.png Support for loading firmware is still relatively basic and is likely to be improved in future releases of the installer. Currently debian-installer will for example not display any warning if you choose to load missing firmware, but the requested firmware is not found. Please report any issues you encounter by filing an installation report (see the section called "Submitting Installation Reports").
Preparing a medium Although in some cases the firmware can also be loaded from a partition on a hard disk, the most common method to load firmware will be from some removable medium such as a floppy disk or a USB stick. The firmware files or packages must be placed in either the root directory or a directory named /firmware of the file system on the medium. The recommended file system to use is FAT as that is most certain to be supported during the early stages of the installation.
Tarballs containing current packages for the most common firmware are available from:
Just download the tarball for the correct release and unpack it to the file system on the medium.
If the firmware you need is not included in the tarball, you can also download specific firmware packages from the (non-free section of the) archive. The following overview should list most available firmware packages but is not guaranteed to be complete and may also contain non-firmware packages:

It is also possible to copy individual firmware files to the medium. Loose firmware could be obtained for example from an already installed system or from a hardware vendor.
Firmware and the Installed System Any firmware loaded during the installation will be copied automatically to the installed system. In most cases this will ensure that the device that requires the firmware will also work correctly after the system is rebooted into the installed system. However, if the installed system runs a different kernel version from the installer there is a slight chance that the firmware cannot be loaded due to version skew.
If the firmware was loaded from a firmware package, debian-installer will also install this package for the installed system and will automatically add the non-free section of the package archive in APT's sources.list. This has the advantage that the firmware should be updated automatically if a new version becomes available.
If loading the firmware was skipped during the installation, the relevant device will probably not work with the installed system until the firmware (package) is installed manually.
note.png If the firmware was loaded from loose firmware files, the firmware copied to the installed system will not be automatically updated unless the corresponding firmware package (if available) is installed after the installation is completed.

hope this helps

It is getting stuck while refreshing the database.

Depending on the amount of the data or music files you have on your device, "Refreshing Database" may take a while to finish. But if you feel it's frozen you may try the following steps:
Reset the device 1. Press and hold the Power/Menu button for approximately 20 seconds. 2. Release the Power/Menu button. 3. Press the Power/Menu button again to turn on the player. NOTE: Resetting will turn the player off while it is frozen.
Delete recently loaded files 1. Connect the device to the PC in MSC mode using force MSC. 2. Locate and delete recently added files. 3. Disconnect the device from the PC.
If this resolves the issue, proceed to STEP 3. Otherwise, format the device, update to the latest firmware, and reload the songs to the device.
Update to the latest firmware You may need to upload the firmware manually, there are instructions on the links below on how to manually update your firmware Sansa c200 series firmware update Sansa Clip firmware update Sansa e200 series firmware update Sansa Fuze firmware update Sansa View firmware update

My mp3 won't turn on is it broken?

Problems with powering up the GoGear are often the result of an exhausted battery. If you cannot power on the GoGear, charge the battery with the supplied charger.

In some instances there is an error with the device that is keeping it from powering on. Unlike the errors that freeze the device, errors that keep it from powering on cannot be cleared by pressing the "Reset" button. The errors need to be fixed by using the "Firmware Manager." The Firmware Manager is a computer program that restores your device to their factory conditions. You will be able to use your device again after restoring it to factory conditions, but you will lose all of the data on your GoGear.

To use the Firmware Manager, open the installation CD supplied with your GoGear and follow the onscreen instructions to install the Firmware Manager on your computer. Plug the GoGear into the computer and check that your computer is connected to the Internet. Open "Firmware Manager" on your computer. You will be prompted to "Restore" the firmware or "Update" the firmware. Since you need to restore your device to working order, select the "Restore Firmware" option. Updating the firmware will not delete the files or errors that are causing the GoGear to malfunction.

Once the process is complete and your GoGear can power on again, consider updating the firmware. Updates give your device extra functionality and repair errors in the device.
