Question about Gateway CX2724 Notebook

1 Answer

Gatewat CX2724 original HD died (Hitachi 100GB @5400RPM) I just installed a brand new WD 250GB @7200RPM. Since I didn't have the original recovery disk I'm trying to install a full version Windows XP Professional I have. Despite BIOS recognizing the HD Windows setup doesn't therefore I cannot proceed with its installation. I've purchased the factory default drivers but I must have a Windows OS installed for it to work. What can I do now? BTW: BIOS doesn't allow me to change HD config (as someone suggested) and Gateway online support doesn't say anything about HD upgrade...

If you have a new hard drive you will have to install the windows operating system from an external source such as a cd drive
go to bios --boot settings and change from 1st boot hard drive to 1st boot cd
install the win os and then you can install the rest
when finished go back to bios and -boot and change back to 1st boot hard drive

No power cable = no power to the board of the HD = no way to communicate with the motherboard = the motherboard doesn't know the hd is in there.

I think that your disk-drive is about to "die", and the symptom of not being able to install Windows (which tries to write many files onto the disk) is a strong indicator.

Is the drive still under warranty? If so, W.D. will give you a free replacement. If not, W.D. has a 'Customer Loyalty' program -- buy a new disk-drive from their web-site, and get a discount.

Can i make my 80GB hard drive to 100GB? 80GB 7200rpm SATA SAMSUNG

This is not possible, 80Gb is 80Gb and 100gb is 100gb, but I am afraid, even if you like to replace, you'll not be able to get 100gb since it's no a standard Hard disk capacity. If you are trying to upgrade, then you can find 120gb, 160gb, 250gb, 320gb etc... Good luck. Thanks for using FixYa.

Hi:
often when you install a IDE driv ne that is as big as yours, you often need to run the WD installation software first. The easy way is to go to the WD website and download WD Data lifeguard tools program. you can try running it with that drive as a slave, or you can just install your new drive by itself, and go from there

Samsung 250GB HD250HJ

Hey, congratulations on successfully installing the harddive.

Since its brand new, there is no volume in the disk (no partition and not formated)

To create a new volume and format the disk for the first time

on desktop, right click my computer icon, select manage from the menu, on the left side of the management window click on disk management

now on the right side, find your new harddrive, right click on it (its most likely the drive 1)

so right click on the 250gb hdd, create new volume, use NTFS default settings, and you may use quick format. normal format will take from 15 minutes to a hour or more.

with quick format the disk will be useable within seconds.

after this is complete you will see a new disk in my computer.

If you need more assistance let me know, I'm here to help
Also, remember to rate the solutions :-)
