New ibm x61 does not read DVD

Hello!
I've bought a new IBM thinkpad x61 with ultrabase. I burned a DVD from my old laptop(Toshiba) and tried to see whether the DVD reader inside of ultrabase of IBM works or not. However, it turns out the it does not read DVD that I've burnt!

Is this a normal thing or do I have to return this product?

Thank you so much for your help!

It sounds like you may need a DVD decoder, also called a codec. You can find codecs at IBM's support site or download.com. Try a codec or different codec to get the x61 to read the burned disc. Also keep in mind that some drives are just picky when it comes to reading burned DVD's.

I have a Ibm Thinkpad G40. It can´t read some discs but some discs it can read. It has a Toshiba DVD-rom SD C2612. Why can´t it read all discs? And how do I fix it?

Could be a lot of reasons
  • Disc's were corrupted during burning (CRC errors, etc) ---Can't fix
  • Could be a blue ray disc ---Get a blue ray player
  • Disc is damaged (scratches or smudges on the disc surface) --Clean smudges or get a disc repair kit for scratches
  • Optical drive could be flaking out (going bad) ---Replace the optical drive
Comment if you need additional assistance.

Not able to read dvd's and able to read cd's model lenovo 510i

While I was not able to find that specific model of laptop, I was able to locate the CDRW Bay and based on my research this bay only supports the following models. Though it may look the same and even have the same interface, if it is not in the supported model list, it will not properly function.

Supported Media Types:
  • CD-ROM
  • CD-R
  • CD-RW
  • DVD-ROM
Compatible with:
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R50
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R50e
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R50p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R51
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R51e
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R52
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T40
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T40p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T41
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T41p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T42
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T42p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T43
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T43p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T60p
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X40 series (X series media slice or Ultrabase required)
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad X41 series (X series media slice or Ultrabase required)
  • IBM Lenovo ThinkPad T30, X30, X31, R40 series (2366, 2367, 2884, 2885, 2681, 2682, 2683, 2896, 2722, 2723, 2724, 2897, 2672, 2673 - when installed with the optional ThinkPad Slim Drive adapter for the UltraBay 2000 or X series UltraBase or Media Slice)

If you see your model in this list comment back and we can move forward with getting your issue resolved.

My sound isnt working either except i have an IBM laptop

Hello,

Is this for Windows XP or Vista?

You can download the drivers from IBM's website:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/product.do?subcategoryind=0&familyind=374625&brandind=10&doccategoryind=0&modelind=0&doctypeind=9&validate=true&partnumberind=0&sitestyle=lenovo&template=%2Fproductpage%2Flandingpages%2FproductPageLandingPage.vm&operatingsystemind=49979&machineind=0

Just choose the Laptop Brand (Notebook and Handhelds),Family(Thinkpad x61)Type(All Types) and then the appropriate Operating system. Is it windows XP or vista?

The Cd/DVD Combo drive reads some CD/DVD disks but not all. There is no pattern with which ones it reads and which not.

You may need to contact your manufacturer to buy a new CD drive. Or look on ebay. There isn't much chance of fixing your drive because it is degenerating(happened to an old toshiba once). There are lots spares on ebay. Hope this helped . Please rate me if it did.

DVD

Hi,
I don't mean to disagree with my associate, but DVD players for R series (or T, A, etc) can be found for less than 20.00 US (Ebay is a good example)
For that matter, we've got at least a dozen at our shop which we sell for 25.00
Installation is very simple as well, just pop the old drive out, put the new drive in.
Good luck
