Hi Joe, I have done everything you have suggested above. The other end of the L/R Audio and VIDEO RCA cable plugged in the Onkyo's DS777 Video3 slots is connected to the Samsung HT-Z210's L/R Audio & Video out (Aux 2). Still no sound. I have the CD connected to the assigned slots and the sound is working and sounding really good. The TV is getting the volume control movement and displays it but the rest of the screen is blank. What could be wrong here. The DVD slot where the Onkyo DVD is connected but I still have to test this. Onkyo DVD player is not accepting any DVD not produced in the US and I didn't have one at the time of testing. I will also test the DVD next time around.

Thank you Joe for the quick response. I will try your suggestion this weekend. The situation is that someone bought my DS777 Onkyo system but he had a Samsung HT-Z210 already so I am assisting him to integrate his Samsung to the Onkyo Home Theater system. I will get back to you this weekend for an update at my end. The Region Hack will be welcome. Thanks again.

The Onkyo DVD player is DV-525 and the Receiver is TX-DS777. Even if the hacks prescribe not-so-easy push buttons, I will give it a shot. Thanks Joe.

The Onkyo DVD is DS-525 and the Onkyo Receiver is TX-DS777. I will give it a shot even if the hacks prescribe "not-so-user-friendly-procedures".

Here is a link to the user's manual for your Onkyo DS777 in case you did not have a copy already:

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Owner's Manual.

You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

See page 8 of the ONLINE USER'S MANUAL for detailed instructions and illustrations on how to connect VIDEO equipment to your unit.

Make sure your VIDEO / S-VIDEO OSD Selctor Switch on the back of the Onkyo (Item 4 on the diagram) is set to the correct output mode depending on which kind of cable you are running to the TV/Monitor. Select VIDEO if you are using a standard RCA cable, or select S-VIDEO if you are using an S-VIDEO cable.

If you are using an RCA cable for the INPUT to your Onkyo, then you must use RCA cables as the OUTPUT to the TV/Monitor.

If you are using an S-Video cable for the input, then you must use an S-VIDEO cable for the output as well. You cannot mix the two.

Also make sure that the VIDEO 3 INPUT MODE is selected on the MULTI CHANNEL INPUT button on front of the unit (see page 26 of the manual, item 1 in the diagram).

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the link, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

I would try routing the signals through the VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2 IN jacks on the Onkyo and see if they work any better.

Then run the AUDIO / VIDEO output to the TV/monitor from the corresponding VIDEO 1 or VIDEO 2 OUT just above.

I will look to see if I can find a REGION HACK for your other unit in order to allow it to play disks from all regions.

    Good luck.

OK sounds good. I will look around for that hack and get back to you sooner if I find it.

It seems like at least some of the Onkyo DVD players can be made region free. Unfortunately the hacks listed are not the easy button push ones. They require you to download and burn a special file onto a disk and then play it in your unit and so on.

Here is a link to a forum describing the process for one model:

I would have to know the exact model number of your Onkyo DVD player to to know if it would work for yours or to give you any more specific details.

    Good luck.

Sorry Jun, no joy on finding a region hack for that specific model of Onkyo.

Unfortunately you might just be out of luck on that front.

    See the following link:

I will wait to hear from you on the weekend.

Yeah, I checked a bunch of variations on that model number and came up with nothing, just some hacks for the SP models.

Onkyo HT-R693 (HT-S7700) receiver will play video but no audio on Netflix and YouTube. However, sound comes through when connected to Comcast cable and even Pandora. I have tried the different channels...

  • Check your cable connections
  • set the input selector to the proper component sources your using.
  • set your speaker settings to either 5.1 or 7.1, according to your speaker configuration via Onkyo's AccuEQ automatic setup tool- because the same binding posts can be used for hooking up the Atmos height or surround back speakers; you'll need to tell the Onkyo system which setup you're using.

Sound from Onkyo CD player well and fine. Then connected the Samsung DVD HT-Z310 to Video3 (L/R audio in, V-in from L/R Audio out and V-out of Samsung) but no sound or nor video on TV? Tried to fix it...

What am I missing here?

There are a lot of models mentioned in this post. What are WE discussing?

* A Samsung HT-Z310 is a Home Theater System.

* An Onkyo TX-DS777 is higher-end AV Receiver that DOES have a Video 3 input which accepts composite video and analog audio.

* An Onkyo CD player is irrelevant to the TV sound in any scenario.

* Unnamed TV.

I don't see any path in your narrative that would carry audio TO the TV. Is there an unmentioned HDMI cable in here somewhere? I see no other audio outputs on the HTZ.

Are you running the HT-Z310 through an Onkyo receiver to somewhere (?) else?

The fewer hops and inteconnects a given signal experiences between its source and your senses, the better. I always run the BEST video from any source to the TV first; the best Audio to the BEST audio electronics. If that helps.

No audio from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100 7.1

if you are using an HDMI cable dont expect sound to come out (even thought HDMI carries both audio and video) the onkyo HT-s5100's Receiver is the HT-r560. the 500 models of the onkyo receiver does not allow HDMI to carry both audio and video. it only allows the video signal to pass to the receiver.

if youre using optical for audio w/c is what you need then these are the steps you need to follow.
*first make sure that the optical connections are ok at the back of the receiver.
*make sure that your DIGITAL INPUT is set to either OPT1 or OPT2 whichever optical input you used to connect the optical cable.
*then go to your PS# settings : go to sound settings / audio moutput settings/ select digital out (optical).

then enjoy.....ü

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

Check out Onkyo's website: The HT-SR 800 description says "a separate audio connection is necessary" Maybe it is true for the --750 too.
