I would sugest here that the freezer coil has frozen over blocking the air flow to the freezer.
The refrigerator section is still probably ok because the could air will drop down the air duct keeping this section clear.
Try manually defrosting the freezer and see if that makes a difference.
If it does you will need a technician to sort out the automatic defrost cycle for you

My GE TFX30PP is constantly running and doesn't turn off. The freezer is very cold but the frig side isn't cold enough. A repair guy put in a new "cold contol" sensor but it didn't help.

This is a very common issue, If the freezer compartment is cold and making ice the
problem is simply airflow from the freezer into the refrigerated section.
Typically when one senses the refrigerator is warm they max out the settings
on both dials the thermostat with its 1-10 settings as well as off for the compressor.
This controls the compressor and temperature.
The additional setting or dial is for colder freezer or refrigerator as well , However
it simply opens or closes a flapper door between the freezer and refrigerator boxes.
When that dial or setting is maxed , it closes and makes the freezer colder, yet leaves the refrigerated section starved for sufficient airflow to maintain a cold box in the refrigerated section.
Just set the dial that does not turn the compressor off to the middle setting.
One can leave the thermostat that does control the compressor in the max setting , just not the colder freezer setting, If you notice colder isnt colder refrigerator, Its actually colder freezer, A common issue found on 25% of all refrigerator calls a simple setting adjustment.
Its easy to think that maxing out the settings makes for a colder refrigerator, it doesnt, it makes a colder freezer and warm rerigeration section.
If a freezer is making ice, theres nothing wrong with the unit other than airflow setting.
I would also clesan the condenser coils off.

Would like to put older side by side refrigerator in our garage. I was told in the winter, when it gets cold the freezer side will not keep foods frozen. I had an older top freezer refrigerator in the...

It could be a problem depending on how cold your garage gets in the winter. Most refrigerators depend on the compressor turning on to cool the freezer section and that cold air is used to cool the refrigerator section. If your the temperature in your garage gets in the 30-40 degree range in the winter. The compressor may not turn on sufficiently since the refrigerator is typically around the 35-40 degree range. This will cause the freezer to warm up to the fridge temperature and your freezer items will defrost.

My freezer is working fine but the fridge has stopped getting cold

Hi, in the freezer there is a panel on the back wall, behind that panel is the evaporator coil and return air ducts going up each side, these ducts tend to freeze up, thus not allowing the cold air into the fridge part. If you can unplug the fridge overnight to let it defrost, that would be ideal, If you want to spend a couple of hours using a blowdryer that would be quicker, just be sure the ducts are sufficiently defrosted. they could be completely packed with ice from top to bottom

Refrigerator not cooling sufficiently/ Freezer not freezing

Yes, if defrost board is bad it will cause problems. Need to listen for fan inside the freezer compartment also. If freezer does not defrost cold air will not circulate properly causing warmer temperatures inside refrigerator. Is model number SXD524VW ?
Let me know, Thanks, Sea Breeze
