Make sure the battery contacts are clean, and the battery is fully "clicked-in" to place
To clean the battery contacts, you can use a cotton swab with some rubbing alcohol, or you can even use a pencil eraser. Clean both the contacts on the battery and on the DS, being careful not to bend any spring pins when doing so. Just make sure the gold color is somewhat shiny, and you should have good contact.
