Question about Philips 55PP9401 55" Rear Projection Television
There are two possible problems. The first one I suggest as it is the easiest. Unplug your TV and leave it this way for a week or two. Seems like a long time as you may be curious as to what the problem is. If you can stand the wait, now plug in your TV and power it up. If the TV powers up and you have video and audio, great. This may only last a moment or two and the TV will shut down again. If this is the case, you will have to replace the the small signal board (ssb). These are very expensive , about 250 to 300 bucks for one. I have to honest with you, but chances are, this is not the problem. The next solution I mention will be the most common problem. If you have any knowledge of TV repair, or know of a electronic hobbiest, find one. Remove the back cover and you will see two large boards on the floor of the TV. Be sure your TV is unplugged of course. You will see in the center between the two boards, there are jumper tape connections. These also have location numbers. You will look for jumper connection 1516, you will want to disconnect this one only. Now plug in your TV and power it up. If the high voltage comes up, the picture tubes will light up for a few seconds or stay on. If they shut down, don't worry, we have found the problem. The thing here is we are on to something. You may notice the picture on the TV will be out of alignment. The convergence ICs , and resistors on the large signal module will need replaced. Please see this website for repairs,www.TvRepairKits.com. They show photo and detailed instructions as well as having the parts for repair. In the next problem category, if the TV picture is good, then I would say you have an audio output IC is bad. I have not repaired one with this problem. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!
