DID YOU USE THE FOLLOWING LAMP BP96-00826A (PHILIPS WRITTEN ON THE LAMP)? ALSO PLEASE CHECK THAT THE LAMP IS COMPLETELY SEATED OR IT WILL RESULT IN BRIGHTNESS ISSUES. THERE WAS ONE THAT I REPLACED THE LAMP IN AND I NOTICED THAT THE DIAL OPENING ON THE LAMP HOUSING WAS A BIT SMALL AND WOULD NOT ALLOW THE COMPLETE SEATING OF THE LAMP AND I HAD A DARK PICTURE AS A RESULT. I USED MY CORDLESS DRILL WITH THE PHILIPS HEAD STILL ATTACHED AND REAMED THE HOLE LARGER AND IT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. HOPE THIS HELPS.
The dulling picture really sounds like a lamp failing. You would need the sony lamp xl-2100u
The ghost image may be easier to fix, sometimes as lcds age you will get a slight shift in a color. deep in the sony menu there is a parameter (menu-setup-imageshift) that will give you 3 levels of correction, this may solve this issue.
I just replaced a lamp in a Sony LCD projection that was just over a year old and it was bad. It was a VERY dim picture. You have a DLP but, in either case a dim or dark picture is almost always caused by the lamp.
