Question about GE Profile PSW26P Stainless Steel Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

I have a GE profile PSS26LSRE. the freezer is -20* at the bottom, & +20* on top. No fan s or ice maker. I opened the motherboard cover & found a big burned out resistor in the center. Is this the cause, or is it the effect? Should I look elsewhere before replacing the board?

The resistor may appear burnt due to over heating but that does not necessarily mean that the board is unservicable. The inputs and outputs need to be check first to dissern if the right information is comming back to the board and the appropriate signal is being outputed.
Forinstance the freezer defrost heater may be fused

Freezer forming ice stalagtite under ice tray

Sounds like the ice maker is allowing too much water in to the tray. There is an adjustment screw under the front cover of the ice maker. A 1/8 turn at a time counter clockwise will shorten the time the water delivery solenoid is open. It is possible that something foreign is keeping the solenoid valve to stay open too long, so it should be inspected too.

Hi!!

The Ice Maker and the Freezer/Fridge part of the unit work separate, that's why you get the ice made but the freezer can't keep it frozen.

Most likely the condenser, located in the back of the freezer is all frozen and covered with ice pluggin up the air ducts to the fridge, preventing it from cooling.

One quick solution will be unplugging the refrigerator and allowing it to defrost on it’s own or remove the freezer's back panel and using a heat gun or hair dryer to melt the ice, this will take about 20 to 30 min..

There are various reasons this type of problem:

The temp. controls are not set properly. Set controls according to manufacturer recomendation.
The small fan in the freezer is not working,
The defros timer is not working or,
The defrost heater coil is busted.

Once the ice is melted, plug unit back in and check for unit reactions. You should be able to hear the freezer fan working. Also, you'll hear about 4 to 6 times a day the defrost heater melting the ice in the back of the freezer, if NOT, check heater coil for continuity.

Don't forget to rate this post. Good Luck.

I have a broken in freezer Ice maker in a GE profile fridge and freezer how do you change it

The ice maker usually hangs on the wall with three screws. two at the top and one at the bottom. Just loosen these screws and the ice maker will lift off the bracket and you can then reach the wiring harness to unplug it.

Ge profile psc23pswa rattling noise

You have actually defined the problem. It is the fan and they normally turn off when the door is opened. Check the fan and be sure the blades can rotate freely. Normally if you fake out the door switch the light will go out and the fan will start.
Good Luck,

Turned ice maker off prior to a ten day vacation. Upon return, it would make thin shelled ice cubes and finally stopped altogether. Could the water line be frozen How does one de-ice?

Fastest way is to remove the ice maker tray so that you have an open area where the ice maker filling tube is, then cover your food with a towel or something to help prevent it from thawing while you let refrigerator defrost for about 20 to 30 minutes with a hair drier on warm or a small fan blowing directly on ice maker where the water fill tube or opening is. I does not need to be right next to the ice maker just an unrestricted open area to let it warm sufficiently to thaw it out without thawing out your food in the freezer. A small piece of ice can stop the valve from opening and this can happen if it is not used regularly.

GE Profile making knocking noises at different times

I have the GE profile Refrigerator with ice maker in the refrigerator compartment. Mine was knocking loudly for long periods of time, so I finally removed the icemaker by removing the side panel in the icemaker compartment held with 1 phillips head screw, disconnecting the electrical plug (unclip), pulling the tab of the icemaker down (on top) and sliding it toward the door, thus removing it. There was ice frozen in the motor compartment that was the problem. I let it thaw out and re-installed. All was OK after that..
