Question about Swiss AIR-O-SWISS Ultrasonic Humidifier - Model AOS 7135 Humidifier

WATER LEVEL FLOAT DEVICE PREVENTS UNIT FROM TURNING ON,EVEN THOUGH WATER TANK IS FULL. REMOVED SOME FILTER MATERIAL WITH NO EFFECT. FLOAT IS FREE WITH NO RESTRICTION.

I did most of the items you mentioned before asking for help. The float doesn't seem to have any contact with a microswitch, unless there is a magnet in the float that closes a circuit in the base unit. I'll do a repeat of the cartridge step and check if a magnet is present in the float or base unit. If it doesn't work - into the junk pile. After only two years, following the instructions closely. Too bad AOS. I'll let you know. Thanks

These hints are from the air o swiss webpage.
Q: No mist / unit is not working / empty indicator keeps flashing
A: Fill up the water tank. Check if water is flowing through the demineralization cartridge (attached to the water tank cap). If the water tank is full but there is only little water in the base it indicates that the water is now flowing through the demineralization cartridge.

  • Wait for 15 minutes to allow the mist to come out of the unit.
  • If the unit is not working and the empty light is not flashing you might have set the desired humidity too low and the current humidity level in the room is higher. That is why the unit switches off automatically.
  • If the empty indicator continues flashing and the tank is full, water is not flowing through the cartridge. Exchange the cartridge or the granules in the cartridge after 2-3 months, in areas with hard water exchange the cartridge after 1 -2 months. However, the demineralization cartridge and or the granules must be exchanged at the latest after 6 months or the unit does not reach its full performance.
If the granules are new, see the following instructions:

  • Make sure the cartridge and/or granules were soaked for 24 hours, water takes longer to filter through dry granules in cartridge and into the base. Next, remove 2 tablespoons of granules from the cartridge, and throw them away. Too many granules in the cartridge it does not allow water to flow from the tank to the base.
If your issue is with the float and not the mister, then you have to make sure the float is tripping the micro switch that turns the machine on. Some units the filter will not allow the float to hit the switch if the filter is not installed correctly. If everything is in correctly and the float is tripping the switch, then the micro switch must be faulty.

I looked at a different model and the float actually had a slim tip that when full it raised up till the tip went inside a narrow opening and the switch was in there in the opening. Very hard to see but I am not sure excactly how your unit trips the switch, but there has to be something to recognize the water level.

3 year old Essick tower D46720 sat during off season. Cleaned, filled and plugged in today and will not turn on. Lights are on; nothing happens.

The red water level light was on even though both tanks were full. The white float behind the filter WAS stuck to the bottom of the tank. I just moved it to its floating position and voila! it is working.

My air-o-swiss 7142 humidifier keeps giving me the empty indicator light to signify no water in the unit even though the base and the tank are full. If I try to reset it comes on for seconds and then shuts...

The water sensor is a float in the mister area of the base. The float is off in one corner with a little plastic barrier around it and translucent cap over it. Make sure the float can more freely. If the float can move up and down but the light stays on, the reed switch (a switch controlled by a magnet built into the float) inside the unit might have been knocked loose, damaged or disconnected. The switch is actually inside the post that the float slides on, but it can only be accessed from the underside - inside the unit.

Water refill light prevents unit from working. Tank is filled . Unit has been cleaned

Your problem is most likely a damaged Ultrasonic Disk (sensor).

If your product has not been used for a while, this piece was most likely damaged if it wasn't properly cleaned before storing. Cleaning well sometimes isn't even enough for this sensitive unit.
Unfortunately, there is no way to get this part, even though it is easily removed and could be easily replaced. Bad PR on the manufacturer's part. Your only solution is to send it for repair (if under warranty, you just pay shipping, if not, you pay shipping and $30) or to buy a different brand. You would think for as expensive as these machines are, the manufacturer would have a better solution to this extremely common problem.

Water running on floor and into plastic tank.

Hi! Your model is equipped with an Automatic Water Level Float Device. It sounds like it is stuck in the UP position,. There fore the water is overfilling the bucket and not shutting off as it should.

The float is adjustable, so the you can set it for 1/2 full shut off or maximum full shut off. It may also be a case of the bucket is not properly installed in the holder. Turn the unit OFF and unplug it. Remove the bucket from the holder and reinstall it, making sure that the bucket fits "squarely" into the holder from top to bottom. Make sure that the bottom of the tank is not tilting downward in any way. Then, plug the unit back in and Turn the Master ON/OFF Switch to ON. If the buckei is properly installed, the unit should start automatically.

To further assist you, I have included a link to your Owner's Manual (in case you have misplace yours), that you can download & print for future reference. Pay particular attention to page # 6. As, it explains the operation and how to set the automatic float valve.

Hi there,

The tank may be full. Your dehumidifier has a safety device that turns off the dehumidifier when the water tank is full. Usually the tank itself either presses against a switch or there's a device connected to the tank that triggers a switch when the tank is in place and full.
If you've emptied the tank and the unit doesn't run, inspect the place where the tank rests to see if there's a switch or mechanism that's not being activated. You may be able to turn it on with a simple flick of your finger.

Good Luck!!

Thanks

Fan is running but humidity is not changing

Q: My unit has been running for several hours. I hear the fan spinning, but I do not notice the water level in the tank decreasing.
A:
First, check the filter to ensure it is wet. If the pad appears dry, remove it from the Base and gently rinse under cool water. Reposition wet filter in the Base. You may also want to note the current moisture level in your home. If the humidity level is over 60% the unit will not put out much moisture
as your air is already saturated.

OK?
Comment by Soulvisitor, posted on Jan 20, 2008 Q: I hear the fan turning, but I don’t see any mist. Is my humidifier operating properly?
A:
Dry air is pulled through the system and a fan disperses invisible, moisture balanced air. There is no
“mist” emitted. When operating normally you will feel only cool air coming from the unit. Monitor the
water level in your Tank/ Base. If you notice a decrease in the Water Tank over 24 hours then the unit
is operating normally.

Clean/refill light

My Slant Fin humidifier has a floating, ring-shaped magnetic level that isn't replaceable. You can't even tell it's magnetic until you cut off the piece that prevents the white plastic float from rising past a certain point. It turns out that there is a ring-shaped magnet in the float.

I found that the Refill light would go off when I held a strong magnet near the float device.

So, I have suspended the magnet with string from the top of the humidifier outside the humidifier.

Caution: This fix disables the safety feature inherent in the low level shut off. I wonder why the manufacturer uses material that corrodes?

Left Tank won't empty

Eureka! Solved my "left bottle not emptying" problem. The problem was not with the bottle but that the top of unit which houses the on/off switch was not seated properly. It takes only a very slight difference in water level for the float to activate the switch, therefore if the top is raised even 1/4" the unit will shut off before the water level is low enough to allow the left bottle to drain.

Flow of mist intermittent.

here is the manual if you need it http://www.plaston.com/uc/ats/products/ultrasonic/aos7133/index_html/manual on page 6 you can see item k - the water level sensor - i believe it is electronic not a float device (but either way the same is usually true)- usually these can fail when dirty - limescale mostly. a lot of the problems may be the result of not replacing the demineralisation cartridge often enough. descale by leaving overnight with around 40% vinegar solution full to the top, make sure the demineralisation cartridge is removed while u descale - check pages 9& 10. Hope this helps :)

Refill light is on, but the water tank is full

In the manual it says that you should clean the heating element. Unplug the machine, lift off the water tank, pull the lever under the tank and lift off the power unit side. If there is too much build up on the element from mineral deposits, the refill light may remain on.
Unfortunately, I have cleaned mine, soaked it in vinegar, made it look nice and new...and it still doesn't work. I am really annoyed as I have not had this humidifier long and have taken really good care of it. I do not want to throw it out. I am going to call customer support and find out if there are any other solutions. (I got a new one for Christmas and do not want to open it until I am sure that it is not fixable!)
