SOURCE: i cannot get the progressive
The instructions for switching progressive scan off have been posted on FixYa numerous times, but I'll save you searching for them and post them again . . .
1. Remove any disc from the unit and close the disc tray.
2. Wait for the DISC message to appear on the display
3. Hold the STOP button on the front of the player for at least 5 seconds then release.
PSCAN should disappear from the display on the front of the player and the video output should return to the standard interlace setting
If you are still unable to switch PSCAN off, please post back for further assistance.

SOURCE: Stuck in progressive scan mode
You need to be sure to remove the discs from the disc changer and close the disc changer. Make sure that your TV is on the Blue Screen and it should say " Progressive Scan Mode" Press and hold the stop button on the unit....not the remote for 5 seconds or more and it should reset. However, if your TV is a Progressive Scan compatible TV, you may need to refer to the user guide for the TV as well....Many newer TVs Use a Progressive Scan Setup, but this solution should still work for you. Make sure all discs are removed FIRST!!!

This is not a solution but it is a big thank you to whoever posted the 3/20/07 solution to getting progressive scan OFF. I tried holding REW & FF in for 5 sec. and it worked. Thanks Again

There should be a switch on the DVD player that is makred 'progressive/interlaced.' You need to flick this switch til it says interlaced, as obviously your TV cannot view progressive signals. It may be on the back of the player, or under a flap on the front.
