Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I have a Toshiba laptop PSA72U-00T00U... When I turn the laptop on I get the Windows XP icon showing me the computer is booting up and then it goes black. It doesn't do anything after this. I've tried taking the battery out and rebooting but that didn't help. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

When the screen goes black, is their ANY image or lettering on the screen?
Does the laptop still appear to be running (fan noise, etc..)?

Will it boot up in safe mode? Press F8 as it is first starting to enter safe mode.

There are no images or any cursor. After I posted my problem I kept playing around with it. I got it to boot all the way into the windows desktop showing a mouse cursor and my wallpaper. As soon as I started moving the mouse it all went black again.

I haven't tried safe mode yet. When I shut it down and start it back up sometimes it's just black only and wont even show me the Windows icon. Next time I get the windows icon I will try hitting F8... thanks for the suggestions.

and yes, the laptop is still clearly running when it goes black. The lights are on the keyboard and the fan whirring is still there.

If you are successful using F8 (Safe Mode), icons on your desktop (in safemode) will appear large. You could run some Windows System Tools such as Disk Clean-up then Defrag while in safemode. Its possible that running these tools COULD help. Would NOT cure the problem but helps in eliminating possibilities before going to next step.

Hi.
Sounds as if you may have a currupt file on your registry,to prevent you booting up to your desktop and the system is just hanging...
When the screen goes black can you see and move your mouse cursor,or does the system freeze..????..
My next suggestion would be to reformat, and a fresh install....as long as you know your screens o.k....

Password for toshiba m645

Which Password? Bios Password?Hard Drive Password? Windows Welcome Screen User Logon Password?

Which Operating System? Windows XP? Windows Vista?Windows 7?OK,if you are running Windows 7, Microsoft tightened security on it so you've gotto have a password reset disk which 99% of the people who own laptops withwindows 7 fail to do. It should be one of the first things you do whenyou buy the laptop. Otherwise, you're faced with reinstalling theOperating System or possibly doing a System Recovery.

If you're on Windows XP or Vista try this:

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on andimmediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see the Safe Modeoption. Select SAFE MODE and let the computer boot up. When it getsto the User Login screen it will show the Administrator userid and the useridfor which you forgot the password. Sign in as the Administrator(hopefully you didn't put a password on it and forgot it too). Once thedesktop appears it will look different, the screen will be darker and the iconsbigger, but this is normal for safe mode.

Click Start/Control Panel/User Accounts
When the User Accounts screen opens, click on the userid for which you forgotthe password. Select the option to REMOVE PASSWORD.

Reboot your machine.

The laptop will not boot up. Screen is blank with only the mouse icon showing.

Try booting your laptop in safe mode to see if your OS boots up.

Toshiba satellite with windows xp will only show black sreen and wont let windows xp repair

Your description of the symptom shows that your operating system installation has been corrupted. Fastest and easiest way to resolve the Issue using the "Recovery and application disk" (it comes with laptop) to perform full system recovery. I would like to remind you full system recovery will erase everything saved on Hard drive. You can check possible option on http://support.toshiba.com

If you dont have recovery and application disk you get one. You can call Toshiba @ 1-800-457-7777

Please post if you need further assitance

Good Luck
