You will need to go on line to Garmins website here is the link www.Garmin.com Look in your packet with the instructions for your unit you should find a card with your registration info. Register your unit by creating a new user name and password. The site should prompt you through the rest.

I hope this helps you out if it does please leave me some feedback.

Garmin Nuvi 1450LMT, after entering a state, then attempting to "spell City" after entering city, and touching "done" unit indicates, "no matches found". For example, Minnesota, Minneapolis, unit...

Is the map turned on? At the main menu, press the system tools icon and press the map icon. Then press the map info button.

What does it say? Does a map show up and is there a checkmark in the box next to the map description? Also, if the map is for a certain area, say lower 49 states, SW, well you won't be able to find a city in the NE because the map is only showing a limited area. If you have ample memory on the unit or have a 2GB or larger SD card, installing the full US & Canada map is the way to go. Make sure the map installed on the unit covers where you are and where you may be going.

How do I get free maps for my Garmin nuvi 1490t?

The only way you can get free maps is if your unit is a 1490LMT which is Lifetime Maps and Traffic. You would need to register your unit at www.garmin.com. You do have lifetime traffic because you say your unit is a 1490T.

If you don't have a lifetime map subscription, you will have to buy a lifetime map subscription or purchase new maps when they are released. The lifetime map subscription will save you money in the long run.

How do i upgrade my garmin nuvi 200 gps? (never been upgraded

Hello,

Download and install the Garmin commuicator plugin to your computer
http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/
This will allow the nuvi to transfer data back and forth to Garmin's server.
Connect your nuvi to your computer and run the Garmin WebUpdater to update the software on the nuvi.
Download and Install WebUpdater.
To update the mapping, you will need to purchase a map update subscription.
https://my.garmin.com/maps/chooseDeviceType.htm?
Once the subscription is activated and registered to the nuvi, follow the download instructions to download the map. This will usually take from 3 to 4 hours or more depending on your internet download speed.
The nuvi 200 is a discontinued model and you may want to consider upgrading to a new GPS as a new nuvi with lifetime mapping can be purchased for about $150.00.

Does this Nuvi 265W for $150.00 has the lifetime maps?

Hi.

No it doesn't. Garmin devices have one free map update included when you buy it new. You need to register your product online to get it.

You can purchase lifetime map updates on garmin.com or buy one upgrade at a time.

Can u tell me how to download free up dated maps for my garmin nuvi 660 thanks vicki

Hi Vicki, unless your nuvi was first activated and acquired satellite lock in the last 60 days (unlikely as yours was discontinued a long while ago) then you cannot get free map updates, sorry.

For models activated within the last 60 days Garmin offer a free update to the latest maps if the maps already on the product when it was purchased are an older version. After that, all updats must be paid for.

You simply won't find free map updates legally. Accurate maps cost a fortune to produce and update so nobody gives them away, even the few illegal downloads tend not to work and if they do work are likely to be out of date anyway.

The way that Garmin price their map updates, it's often better to simply buy a new Garmin with the maps pre-installed, although I appreciate that's not the answer you hoped for. If you do buy Garmin updates then you can either go for a one-off update, or for additional cost can buy a lifetime update, but it's limited to the lifetime of the device which is only designed to last three years anyway so may be poor value if you buy the lifetime update and your machine then dies of wear or old age.

I have the garmin nuvi 260, and downloaded the update to my computer in June, then to my gps from there. Now I have a huge file on my computer. Do I need to keep it there? I bought the lifetime upgrade.

I have the lifetime upgrade too. NO you do not need to keep the maps on your computer. Get rid of it. By the way there was a new map available December 21st.
New map is Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-ansi-language:#0400; mso-fareast-language:#0400; mso-bidi-language:#0400;} : NT2010.30
I'd suggest you download directly to the 260. Remember it takes about 4 hours to do.
Smart decision on the map lifetime upgrade. I've paid for mine many time over.
