You may have a bad board or bad keypad bezel. Try using the other thermostat button. Either Pool or Spa button should activate the unit.

Why is my minimax giving me an eror code?

Because the heater is in sensing an error with it.
what error message are you getting?

I have a Pentair MiniMax NT. I am getting ERR on the display but I can't seem to get the door open. I have tried turning the single screw that locks the left and right door but it won't unlock.

sometimes the door is just stuck. try pulling the door as you turn the locking screw. sometimes you need to use a flat head screw driver to help the door open as you turn the screw back and forth

I have a Pentair Minimax NT 250k electronic heater. Turned the heater on today and it does not get through startup sequence. It flashes - - -, then flashes 888 (with red service light), then back to - -...

I would say the problem is the thermistor. The board will light up, the SW switch is green, but you get a display that flashes dashed lines and then what looks like 888. That is a start up code. The thermistor is located on the side where the water enters the heater. There are two screws at the top of the side panel. Undo the screws and lift the panel off. The thermistor is a probe with 2 small wires coming out and lead to the control panel. It is a very simple fix and is usually the problem if you have not experienced any other issues. The part runs between 30 and 45 dollars. Most pool stores would carry this.
thanks let me know if that fixed the problem

I have a pentair minimax NT pool and spa heater. It is showing error code 4, which according to the troubleshooting part of the manual is a fan issue. However, when I first turn it on, the fan blows. ...

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

A fan error means one of two things; either the fan isn’t working (which you state it is) or the sensor that tells the heater the fan is working is failing. That sensor can be tricked by debris in the tubing that reads air pressure from the fan. Find the tube on the fan housing that leads to a pressure switch and remove it. Clean out the tube and the orifices it attached too. If the heater still won’t fire, replace the pressure switch the tube attaches too. The pressure indicator on the panel is reading your pool pump pressure, not the draft fan.

Heater will not turn on.

If the heater does not even attempt to light, it's most likely the Digital Display Temperature Controller (DDTC) Circuit Board.

Pool heater will not heat

Im no pro, but I know there is an air sensor behind the main board. If the fan is running you probably have a problem with that sensor. If your lucky the air hose could have just popped off.
