Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

2 Answers

I have a DVD recorder Model DMR-EZ28. When I put a DVD in, it automatically is going to "play" and a screen comes up which shows what I have recorded, but this screen is different than the normal navigation screen. On the bottom, it says "previous, play, next" and no other options. I cant go to submenu to delete as I normally do. Also, I can no longer record at all. All my DVD's now show that there is no room left, when I know there is. On the set-up menu, it lets me go to Restore factory settings, but it won't allow me to choose "ok" I have already called the help number and they had me push the re-set button and I am still having the problem. Any suggestions?

I have put in a brand new DVD with the same result. I have been taping, deleting and retaping on these dvd with no problems until now. What is different now is the fact that as soon as the disc is put in, the recorder shows "play" and this other navigator screen comes up

We don't have a CD burner, so I assume this is not an option for us?

  • jshanley95 Apr 12, 2011

Thank you for your help. I have not yet tried what you suggested. However since then, I realized that what is happening is that my recorder is now reading my discs as not recordable. I can't understand why this started. I have. They are the same discs I have been using, deleting, re-using with no problems. Any thoughts? Also, I have never been able to record any channels with a dash in it, such as 35-3 etc.. I will either get a "!" symbol or it will record, but the picture is snow

I recommend a firmware upgrade from the link above. This will correct issues that were found for the player as well as any "glitches" like what you are experiencing. I hope this goes will for you... Please follow the manual steps about how to upgrade your firmware and after you have, you need to do a reset of the player itself.

Thank you and have a nice day :)

Considering you've tried a hard reset and soft reset, a firmware upgrade will be your only option as far as the "next step." It seems that your firmware has went crazy and you need to try and reset that. With the link I provided, I would find a friend, family, etc to burn the firmware upgrade for you and go from there. I wish I had other options for you, but this is software related and any hardware resets aren't going to get you where you need to be.

Let me know how it goes :)

I would recommend new discs. RW disks are only rated for so many "read-write cycles." As far as the "-" channels. These are digital. Not all recorders are programmed for either digital or any "exceptions." The exception being the "-" this may cause errors in the programming, hence why you are not getting any recordings from the "-" channels. You may still want to upgrade the firmware as firmware upgrades tend to repair known "problems" that are found in the programming. This COULD correct the "-" errors, but I also recommend new discs. Remember not all recorders read/write with all disc types. Not all discs are created equal. Just remember this when going to purchase new RW discs.

    Thank you

If you have FINALIZED a recordable DVD or were using a write once only DVD-R, then you can no longer record anything further on it.

If you insert a finalized disk, it will probably show the disk as having no room left on it no matter how little information was recorded to it prior to finalizing.

Try inserting a brand new blank DVD-R or DVD-RW and see what options it gives you in the initial menu.

Here is a link to a quick tutorial on Recordable DVD Types:

http://www.timefordvd.com/tutorial/RecordableDVDTutorial.shtml

Just use your mouse to click on the link, which is the underlined and highlighted text just above. This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Sorry, I just looked throught the entire User's Manual for your model and could not find anything in there that might explain that behaviour.

Here is the link to the online manual in case you don't have a copy:

    http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANP...

To view the Owner's Manual with Operating Instructions just use your mouse to click on the link above. You may need ADOBE READER installed on your computer to read PDF documents. You can download this free at WWW.ADOBE.COM if necessary. Click on the DOWNLOAD ADOBE READER button on right side of the ADOBE home page when you get there, and then just follow the onscreen instructions to install it.

Sorry I could not help much further than this. If I come across any more useful information later I will be sure to comment back here and let you know.

    Good luck.

Will my non finalzied discs play on a panasonic ez 28 or ex 768

You will have no problem playing your non finalized discs on any of the Panasonic DMR range including the DMR EZ28 series. The DMR E55 can also easily be repaired if you can use a soldering iron and a little care. Please checkout my other postings for full repair details.

I have a Dmr-EZ28. After one hour of paying a DVD, the screen gets hazy and goes black. I had this problem with the EZ-27K and returned it. What's going on?

How is it connected (HDMI, Component)? To what is the recorder's output connected? Does it do it on pre-recorded movies or your own recordings or both?
