Question about GE JBP82 Electric Kitchen Range

3 Answers

I have an older model (70's?) GE Double electric oven. I wish to clean under the burners but can't figure out a way to open the top. Is there a way to do this like you can on newer mosels? The model # is JC566OW1HA.

The problem I am having is that there are no screws or latches under the main top, so I can't get it opened. I do not have a glass top oven. It is an older double electric range with the coil burners. Any ideas? Thanks

This was posted under the wrong heading. The model is a GE JC566 OW1HA .

The issue is how to open the main top of the range. Thanks

  • hvantassell Apr 03, 2011

Thanks but this does not give detail onto how to lift up the cooktop, which is what I am in need of. This model does not have a latch and won't easily lift up.

  • hvantassell Apr 04, 2011

It is not a JBP82. I'm unsure how that appeared in the question title. It is a JC566 0W1HA and it is much older...probably from the 70's or early 80's. It is Harvest Gold in color which should give you a better indication of the year. There are no screws under the range top holding it into place. It seems to be latched on each side but there is no place to release the latch. I have searched GE's site as well and they state that after 92 they started making models with an easy lift top for ease of cleaning. Perhaps this means that the top does not lift on this model?

  • hvantassell Apr 05, 2011

Yes this is a double electric oven. It does not have the easy open as the manuel shows. I will give the putty knife trick a try though. Thanks

I'm confused as to the numbers that were posted. The JBP82 model is a glass cook top and the model number that was posted can not be found.

However if it is a older model try this. Open the top oven door....look under where it meets the range top when closed. There are screws mounted that you need to take out.

Now try sliding or lifting the top.

Still confused on the numbers posted.

  • Insert a large blade putty knife between the stove top and the control console close to the front corners. Slide the putty knife in to release the retaining clip that secures the stove top to the front of the range.

  • Lift up on the front of the stove top. Pull the stove top forward to disengage the rear of the stove top from the rear hinge. Or the top may just lift up after disengaging the clips

  • Still have found nothing on the model number posted.

This is as close to the model number that was posted as I could for a user manual.

    JCS57, JCP67

However this is a electric unit.....double oven with one on the right(large) and one on the left (small)

I blieve is was made in the 70's

    Here is the link http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals...

If you can not download the manual email me kdrake84@yahoo.com and I will forward it to you.

It says in the manual...to disconnect the heating units....by lifting them 1 inch only and then pulling them out. This will allow you to get the drip pans out.

To lift up the top....simply lift the top....it will have a support rod where you can rest the top on.

    From the manual......

    To lift the cooktop:

    1. Remove all items

    which may slide off

    the cooktop.

    2. With both hands,

    grasp the front edge

let the cooktop rest on it.

    of the cooktop.

    3. Lift the cooktop.

    4. Raise the support rod and

Clean under the cooktop with hot, mild soapy water

    and a clean cloth.

    To lower the cooktop:

    1. Lift the cooktop and lower the support rod.

    2. Lower the cooktop and allow it to lock into position.

I lifted the stove top of my hotpoint electric stove to clean under the burners and now I can not get it back in place

There are two metal brackets, thin ones, like little wires, one on each side, holding the stove top up. They are held in place by clicking toward you slightly when you life the stove top, push them back toward the wall slightly to release them.

    Good Luck!

I have an old (20 years +) Tappanr 4 burner range with a double oven. I am missing the knob for the cleaning cycle but it says it is self cleaning. I need a replacement. I'd also like to find replacement...

chances ar erte hlower oven door , is your broiler, the older models didnt have a seperate broiler inside oven, rather they used 1 burner bar ,and depending on wher oyu place the food you would either bake(above) or broil( under) made sense, just pain in the rear to bend down to use it. as far a knob and gasket , perhaps you can find a model number under the main top assy so we can look up for you

GE Elec oven JT952-30" blinks the "lock" after self-clean

Try unplugging power cord or trip circuit breaker, to cut the power to the appliance, then wait one or towo hours for the oven to cool down completely.

If the door stays locked, then there is a fault, probably a faulty temp probe that had blown because of high temperatures generated on self cleaning, or a defective control assembly. In that case you will need to call a technician to take apart the oven and fix the fault.

Enter model number here to find assembly diagrams and parts.
