Question about Compaq Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I turn on my computer it will lock up on the compaq loading page where it tells me which Function buttons to push to do certain things but it gets locked there and won't let me go past it. When it decides to go past that page it gets locked up in DOS with nothing but a black screen and a hyphen in the upper left hand corner. I don't know what to do. I have a lot of family pics on my computer and don't want to lose any of them. The only other thing I have noticed is that the yellow light under the green power light just stays on. Doesn't blink and it doesn't go off. Please help me! I can't even get to system restore. I tried hitting F10 like it told me and it just locks there. What do I do?

Hi...
I,m sorry to say....your harddrive may have bad sectors....best thing to try is a chkdisc command,to see if you can repair the hdd.....
If you have access to another computer, put your hdd in a external, and virus scan it,whilst your there,it may be a good idea to see if you can retreive you pics from there and then do a format...if your other computer doesn,t recogize it then it may be to late..
It may be time for a new hdd....
but even if you can,t retreive you pics but you can format your harddrive ..don,t worry as much, because even if you do a fresh install on the same hdd...there are programs out there that can still retreive your lost pics....even if they have been wiped..maybe not all of them but a good few....i,ve done this on other customers computers..

Hope this help,if so please rate this,as i,ve taken the time to answer your question...if i can be of any more help..

Regards

I have a Compaq Presario f700 running Windows 7 64bit. It freezes up at bootup, unless at the Compaq screen I press the [DEL] button to view the start-up sequence message. Why? How can I fix it?

Restart your computer
During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup usually the Delete or F2 key
this will vary depending on your computer and operating system

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS using the arrow keys load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart
if this fails to fix the problem

During the boot process tap the f8 button three times this will boot into safe mode where the only things working will be your mouse and keyboard enabling you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell what file has been corrupted or missing you might be able to work your way through problem if you are unable to find a solution

restart back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time
click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option

hope this helps

How do I enable a compaq laptop's keys

Compaq Presario computers provide users with a row of function keys for added keyboard functionality. Function keys can serve a dual purpose as well.
Function keys are located at the top of Compaq Presario keyboards.
By learning how function keys work on a Compaq Presario you can take advantage of time saving keyboard shortcuts.Purpose
Use function keys to access menus, save changes and create shortcut keys.
Various applications, including Microsoft Office, allow you to select a function key as a shortcut key for running specific tasks. These settings are usually found under the Tools, Settings or File menu.
Each Compaq Presario computer has twelve function keys.
The most common used keys are "F2," "F8," "F10" and "F12."
The first three are used mainly to access and use the Compaq BIOS. "F12" is used to access a set of run from options during the boot process.

How to Access
Access function keys on a Compaq Presario by pressing any of the keys on the top row of the keyboard. Access the key's dual purpose by first pressing the "Fn" key located on the bottom row of keys.
Use function keys as shortcut keys by pressing them anytime while in the desired application. Remember, you must set them as shortcut keys first.
Note that some programs may already have certain function keys set as shortcuts.
Open menus and view the shortcut keys beside each menu item before setting your own shortcuts.

Dual Uses Each function key has a dual use. Press "Fn" plus the desired function key for the key's other use.
Below each function number is a small picture within a square or rectangle.
This dictates the dual use. "F1" opens help and support. "F2" serves as a printer shortcut.
Open your homepage by pressing "F3."
If you use dual monitors, switch between monitors by using "F4." "F5" puts your computer in stand-by mode.
Quickly lock your computer by pressing "F6." "F7" and "F8" adjust the screen's contrast.
Play and pause your music in Windows Media Player or other default media player by using "F9."
Press "F10" to stop playing media. Skip ahead or rewind media by using "F11" and "F12."

Other "Fn" Keys

In addition to function keys, the "Fn" key is also provides other keys with a dual use.
Any key with a small square on the key has a dual purpose such as the "scroll," "insert" and "delete" buttons.
Since laptop keyboards have no number pads, certain keys serve as the number pad by pressing the "Fn" key.

Hello; It has to be a button you might have pressed near the mousepad on the notebook. Try clicking that button again, the red light will go off.

I pushed a bunch of buttons on my keyboard and i somehow managed to lock my function key. if i push my arrow keys my volume changes. ho do i unlock my function key?

Push the same 'function' key, to unlock it, and thus return to "normal" mode.

Or, turn the computer off, then turn it on.

How to i restart my computer as if i just brought it from the store, turning it on for the first time

Did you get a recovery disk with the computer? If not, is there a recovery partition on the HD? Read your bios post screen when you first turn it on. If there is a recovery partition it will be an option (right besides the setup and boot options). It will be assigned a function key. Which ever function key it is, hit it as soon as your post screen comes up (first screen you should see when you first turn the computer on).

This will put you in the recovery program, which will reinstall windows for you.

If you do, place the recovery CD in your computer and turn it on. If it winds up just loading your hard drive's OS, then restart the computer and enter setup (usually one of the function keys or del.. it will tell you on the post screen). Once you are in setup, goto the boot tab and change the boot order to CDROM being first (it will most likely have the harddrive first). Once you put CDROM as first boot, the computer will load your recovery CD. Just exit and save out of setup and let the CD load the recovery program.

Hope this helps,

Compaq parcerio 2000 laptop web connection light will not come on

did you refer to the wifi light? actually wifi radio receiver is a manual thing and you should turn it ON and OFF manually. Im not sure with the model you described but try to look for a slide or push button with the wifi icon (an antenna with 3 waves). then try to see if the wifi led is lit. Another way, if your device is soft touch, then there is no hard press button for it. it will be a combination of FN + a function key (look at the function key with the wifi icon)
