Question about Sony KP-53V80 53" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Blurry screen? I have a blurry screen and especially on text. I had a repairman fix the same problem about a year ago and he charged me $500 bucks saying it was the condenser. Does anyone have the same problem and if so, can you change the condenser yourself? After the last repair it had a great picture again. Thanks

My Sony Kp-53 started to get a washed out color in the pitcher. A Repairmen came out and charged an insane amount and all he did was wiped dust off of the red blue and green projection lenses. Around three months ago the screen started to get fine horizontal black lines across the screen from top to bottom with about 3 to 4 inches in-between them. Every now and again they would turn into diagonal squiggly lines. If a Movie is playing and the pitcher had a bright light in the background or a white or light color background it will streak to the right and make a humming sound. The sound would get louder depending on how bright the light or glair that came up on the screen would get. Is it something simple wrong with it still or is the problem more serious this time? Or is there something I can just pull out and replace like a tube or something?

There are 3 things that will make your tv go blurry, the focus and screen control assembly , the high voltage splitter and the horizotal transformer and that is only if all three tubes are blurry.if only one tube is blurry, more than likely the tube itself is bad.

Lines and blurry screen

hi, sounds like u need some solder joints re-worked (probably quite a few for a set that old, but your right it`s a great set), price varies by region greatly, I`m in central florida we would charge 75 for service call & 95-125.00 for labor depending on how long it takes to do the solder rework, hope this answers your question, get it fixed it`s waaay better than the new hd (ha ha ha) sets, video-tek

I have double blurry vision with green and purple/red splashes on all inputs (ghostlike)

This is a very common problem. If you want to fix this yourself you will need to be able to solder, but other than that its a very easy fix. Both the convergence output ic's need to be replaced (PN STK392-110). If you have a repairman do this for you it will run $300-$500 to repair. Let me know if you want to fix this yourself and i will assist you further.

Strong red tint and a blurry screen

This is a serviceman only job.  It isn't worth it.  The parts and labor are at least $500.

Sony KP61HS10 61 in - out of focus when first turned on

He probably went into the Service Menu by Pressing Display,5,Vol+,Power buttons and adjusted the red convergence and that may have lasted alittle while, but the problem seem to be going blurry and then when warming up comes back ok. This indicates a Leaky Capacitor. My question would be is it only Red that is Blurry or is it all colors. It could also be a CRT problem. Could you take a picture of it when it's doing it?

Blurry picture and arched at bottom

We have a Proscan 50" Projection TV. A T.V. repairman told us it was the HV (Horizontal Vertical) Splitter causing this problem and tried to find the part for us. The part for our TV was too hard to find though and we ended up not having ours fixed. Our T.V. is 8 years old though, and Proscan is discontinued. Maybe you'll have better luck finding an H.V. Splitter for your TV. Of course, you'd need a professional to install it for you. Good luck.
