Canon Fax Instructions

You may download the manual and more from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mx_series/pixma_mx892#BrochuresAndManuals

How do you have DSL without a landline? Are you able to make and receive phone calls? If so then the fax should work just fine. It doesn't matter to the fax machine if your phone jack is connected to old-style copper wire, DSL, or fiber-optics. On the other hand, if you can't make and receive phone calls then you can't send and receive faxes either.

Can canon mf4370 fax on dsl line

Fax machine operation can be interrupted by DSL lines, however, because the DSL signal is also transmitted through phone wiring. This can result in a loss of data in the fax if steps are not taken to prevent it. Fortunately, this is not a difficult thing to fix.

Items you will need

  • DSL filter
Step 1

Unplug the fax machine from the phone jack.
Step 2

Plug your DSL filter into the phone jack. DSL filters are specifically designed to eliminate interference from the DSL line on your phone line.
Step 3

Plug the fax machine into the phone line jack on the DSL filter. You can now use your fax machine and DSL line at the same time without risk of data loss or interference.

I have a Canon Pixma MX870. I have a DSL to which I have a phone line and also a phone line to my phone. If I want to set up for receiving faxes, where do I put its phone line. My surge protector only...

You should be able to run a line from the phone line jack to the IN jack of the fax machine / printer and then run the phone line to the phone from the OUT jack on the printer/fax. You can get a short phone patch line from Radio Shack or even Target or Walmart. It will have a plug for the phone jack at both ends.

Canon MP730 will not fax. Sounds funny at the start like it is double dialing

Check that the "Alarm" light is off. If it is on, and remains on after a power cycle (off then on), you need to call tech support.

Otherwise, verify the line settings (User Manual, page 6-4). You probably have tone dialing and not rotary dialing. Verify that the "L" and "Phone" jack are connected correctly to the wall socket and (optionally) to other equipment such as phone or answering machine.

Also, verify that the phone line is a POTS compatible line, i.e., not an ADSL socket (or, if it is, it has the proper filters installed) by plugging the cable into an "old" telephone and verifying the line tone comes up and dialing works.

How do you receive fax on hp officejet 4110

Do you have any Digital Answering Machines in the house?
or is it a dedicated line?
anyway heres the link for the 3 digit error codes document, its a public document that can be found by searching www.hp.com using this Article #: bpu02549 or buu02549
anyway as you can see 388 result/solution is the following...

Problem: Unable to complete the connection.
Solution: *Reattempt the fax reception at a different time when telephone line conditions have improved.

Now this means that one or both fax machines can have a problem. So lets isolate the problem.

Place a regular phone into the wall jack that the OJ 4110, if there is a static sound then its the phone line that is having the problem. if there is no static continue on...*Note if you have a DSL Internet service you NEED a filter for the fax*
..
What this is most commonly caused by is Bad line conditions which can occur in some different ways.
1) If there has been recently a Thunder Storm the electrostatic discharges interupt phone signals.
2) Recent power line downage
3) Recent Phone line downage
4) The phone company upgrading the lines

But basically something is BLOCKING the faxes from hearing each other. That is why you get this error code.
You can call your phone company to run a line trace. The reason you want to do this is so that you can eliminate the possibly of Static, Yes there are differnt types of it;
1) the normal static that you and me can hear
2) the SuperSonic Static, AKA Static in the Higher Frequency Ranges, where your DSL internet connection is. the Fax will pick up on those Higher frequency ranges, and it will cause problems. So put a DSL Filter on the Fax it wont hurt, and most of the times it helps alot.
Again Make sure ECM is disabled.
other than that, try unplugging all devices on the phone system an try...
i think there is alot fo information, i cant think of anything else...
Hope that helps

I can only fax my header

Make sure that you are not running on a digital line, on a digital phone system, or using the same line as a DSL modem. This is essentially any phone that uses the same number, not just the jack in the wall. Newer modems use similar frequencies to DSL and digital phone systems even when you are running equipment to scrub the line so they are not compatible and will often interfere with one another.

Fax

To test your fax setup
1 Press Setup.
2 Press 6, and then press 5.
This displays the Tools menu and then selects Run Fax Test.
The HP all-in-one displays the status of the test on the color graphics display and prints a report.

3 Review the report.
– If the test passes and you are still having problems faxing, check the fax
settings listed in the report to verify the settings are correct. A blank or
incorrect fax setting can cause faxing problems.
– If the test fails, review the report for information on how to fix any problems
found. For more information, you can also see the next section, The fax test
failed.
4 Press OK to return to the Setup Menu.

Make sure you used the phone cord supplied in the box with your HP all-in-one
to connect to the telephone wall jack. One end of this special 2-wire phone
cord should be connected to the port labeled "1-LINE" on the back of your
HP all-in-one and the other end to your telephone wall jack

This special 2-wire cord is different from the more common 4-wire phone cords
you might already have in your home or office. Check the end of the cord and
compare it to the two types of cords shown below.

If you used the 4-wire phone cord, disconnect it, find the supplied 2-wire cord,
and then connect the 2-wire cord to the port labeled "1-LINE" on the back of
your HP all-in-one. For more information on connecting this phone cord and
setting up your HP all-in-one for faxing, see Fax setup.
If the supplied phone cord is not long enough, you can extend it. For
information see The phone cord that came with my HP all-in-one is not long
enough.
● Try connecting a working phone and phone cord to the telephone wall jack
that you are using for the HP all-in-one and check for a dial tone. If you do not
hear a dial tone, contact your telephone company and have them check the
line.
● Other equipment, which uses the same phone line as the HP all-in-one, might
be in use. For example, you cannot use your HP all-in-one for faxing if an
extension phone is off hook, or if you are using your PC modem to send an email
or access the Internet.
● The phone line connection might be noisy. Phone lines with poor sound quality
(noise) can cause faxing problems. Check the sound quality of the phone line
by plugging a phone into the telephone wall jack and listening for static or
other noise. If you hear noise, turn Error Correction Mode (ECM) off and try
faxing again. For information, see Use error correction mode. If the problem
persists, contact your telephone company.
● If you are using a digital subscriber line (DSL) service, make sure that you
have a DSL filter connected or you will not be able to fax successfully. The
DSL filter removes the digital signal and allows your HP all-in-one to
communicate properly with the phone line. Obtain a DSL filter from your DSL
provider. If you already have a DSL filter, make sure it is connected correctly.
Make sure your HP all-in-one is not connected to a telephone wall jack that is
set up for digital phones. To check if your phone line is digital, connect a
regular analog phone to the line and listen for a dial tone. If you do not hear a
normal sounding dial tone, it might be a phone line set up for digital phones.
● If you are using either a private branch exchange (PBX) or an integrated
services digital network (ISDN) converter/terminal adapter, make sure the
HP all-in-one is connected to the port that is designated for fax and phone
use. Also, make sure that the terminal adapter is set to the correct switch type
for your country/region, if possible.
Note that some ISDN systems allow you to configure the ports for specific
phone equipment. For example, you might have assigned one port for
telephone and Group 3 fax and another port for multiple purposes. If you
continue to have problems when connected to the fax/phone port, try using the
port designated for multiple purposes; it might be labeled "multi-combi" or
something similar. For information on setting up your HP all-in-one with a PBX
phone system or ISDN line

you may also refer to the manual for this unit here
if you go there please refer to page 82 of the manual or chapter 10
