    Hi

    Thanks for the response.

We do not have a splitter, but I will check our old digital box to see if that works. If it does, how easy it is to replace the digital tuner in our Panasonic box?

I can think of two possibilities. One: does your antenna system use an amplifier or splitter? It could be damaged. If you can, try removing these parts and directly connecting the DMR EX75 to the antenna. Then check if you can find the digital channels. Then reinstall the splitters or amplifier one by one until you find the bad part. Replace it. Some antennas can be set up with a fuse. This may need to be replaced. Check if your antenna has shifted orientation (particularly for outside antennas or ones that could be bumped).

Two: the digital tuner could have failed. If you have other devices with a digital tuner, check if they receive these stations. (If the devices allow it, check the signal strength on each. Tuners vary in sensitivity and with digital signals will give no signal if the minimum signal strength isn't available.)

See the manual for Signal Condition to check the quality and strength of the incoming signal. (page 65 of the manual http://dl.owneriq.net/d/d0a06f1a-db5e-452f-b3ec-74968cb3e8de.pdf )

I hope this helps.

(I have two tvs with an amplifier/splitter. The primary TV will still receive a watchable digital picture when the second TV reports "no signal". This happens when the antenna shifts in the wind or when the amplifier fails. The direct connection improves the signal strength. Moving the antenna back to the correct direction or replacing the amplifier are better solutions for the long term.)

I do not think it is difficult to replace the tuner if you have one (assuming soldering skills). The hard part is usually finding the replacement tuner. If you open the unit, you may have better luck searching by the part number. (Searching DMR EX75 parts isn't listing any tuners on the usual sites I check for parts.)

My Panasonic dvd recorder appear to no longer be receiving TV channels it was working and then suddenly not. I canstill view TV through my TV so Im doubtful that it is an ariel problem and I have checked...

Sounds like the inbuilt ATSC tuner has failed; if this is analogue only, it may not be worth repairing that. If however it is a digital tuner, it may not be economical nor cheap to replace at component level. It is up to you, if you want to submit this unit to an authorised Panasonic service centre, to get a quote and second opinion about it. At least then you could make a firm decision afterwards.

The DMR-EZ27K was a reasonable model Panasonic DVD recorder, and it's better than their DMR-ES15V.

Nice unit. The cheapest option I can suggest would be if it is an analogue tuner model, simply connect an external digital set top box to the respective inputs on the unit and record the TV that way (assuming the channels are not encrypted with macrovision). It's crude, but it will save you an expensive workshop hassle.

Connecting up CRT TV, VCR, DVDR and digital box

Hi,
I think the better task is (A)
You can try switch scart's!! Then try to record on DVDR or leave as it is and look out for picture on your VCR!!! If you do (B) you will lose a picture quality!
good luck

Can the Panasonic DMR-EH55 be made to receive digital channels? e.g. via a digital capable TV or a set top box? If not, I suspect it will be obsolete when analogue channels cease this year (in Australia)

If you receive your channels through your local cable company, nothing will change. The DMR-EH55 will continue to work normally.
If you receive your channels with your rooftop antenna you'll need a Digital to Analog TV Converter Box. The unit itself will not receive digital signals directly.

My old samsung dvd recorder dvd/r120 doesnt work with my new digital tv. can only record 4 analogue channels worked fine before with digi box.have a digital aerial

> digi box (?)
Is this digital converter?
Your new TV doesn't need it but it could well work with your DVR. It wouldn't give you the benefit of HD recording but with it, you could convert the digital signal into analog and record the results.

I cannot get any tv channels though my panasonic

This model only has an analogue tuner so wont receive anything if the analogue signal in your area has been switched off. either buy a new new with a freeview tuner built in or just use that one in conjunction with a freeview box.

Cannot get any digital channels since local digital switch over

The official line on this is that you should try and retune again, but there are some Panasonic models with similar model numbers to yours which have been specifically identified as having incompatibility problems with the Freeview retune.

However, your model is definitely not one which appears on the problem list, so it's worth checking that your aerial wasn't misaligned or damaged during the gales last weekend. In addition the Winter Hill transmitter is currently undergoing work until December which will significantly boost the digital signal and give it HDTV capability, so your box may have have been knocked out of kilter if the current digital service was temporarily operating at restricted capacity. Digital signals are by their nature much weaker than analogue tv and if you have a marginal aerial system which has been up for many years and which feeds a number of televisions in the house then it's definitely a good idea to see about upgrading your aerial system.

The difference in actual parts costs between a top spec aerial system and a poor one are surprisingly low, it's also easily possible with careful design and installation to get a better performance with poor parts than you can get with a poorly designed and installed system using top quality parts. One thing does hold true though: a well designed and installed system using poor parts will only last a few years before needing serious attention but a proper job can last up to thirty years.

If you're sure about your aerial system and retuning does not help, then you'll need to contact Panasonic directly. The first web address below will give you their contact number along with a list of Freeview boxes with known retune issues. A second web address which I've given takes you to an excellent Sheffield based tv aerial company which has an incredibly informative website.

Is your recorder hooked up to the new convert box for digital antenna reception?
I am currently researching the convert boxes for my dvd recorder. I found that some dvd recorders already have digital converter boxes already installed. This might be the case for you.
