If you want another drive to boot instead of the Hard Disk Drive, you can either go to the boot menu or into your System Settings (BIOS) to change the order in which drives attempt to boot. Each BIOS is different, and could take a different key-press during start-up to get into it. The most common I've seen are F1 or ESC.

What would cause my pc to turn on but not boot in fact all fans in the tower stop spinning cept for the psu and video card and the video card fan spins alot faster than normal at a point you can hear

Hi Chuck
sounds to me like your machine is not finding something required to boot. I would start by cleaning and rebuilding the machine which will hopefully discover a component such as the hdd or graphics card which is not plugged in correctly. Are you getting any bleeps when the machine is powered up? Any display appearing on the screen? Hope this helps, if there are any other signs of power e.g. display let me know as it could help diagnosis.

Computer will start up but screen will stay blank

do you get a 'NO Signal' display on monitor, or anything when booting?
if not check to see if you can see lights on inside the frame? if not, do you hear fan spinning or beeping? sometimes the fan on the heat sink over the processor will stop spinning. the chip needs cooling so if fan won't spin an error will not let pc boot up to save it from getting too hot.
if you can take frame off and find the processor chip on motherboard to see if it is spinning. if not that would stop it from booting. if it is spinning then it is something else like the graphics card failure.

Laptop can not boot,noisy hdd

Hello, welcome to Fixya!

It is obvious that the hdd of your laptop is defective. The HDD has some bad sectors which is most likely beyond repairs.

You need to replace the HDD of your laptop because the noise you are hearing is an indication that the HDD is defective.

I hope the above information is clear. If not clear, please let me know.

If still not detected possible issue with hdd. Try connecting on different computer if still issue persist replace Harddrive.
