No not a "Common" thing, however any microprocessor based unit can and will suffer from "Glitches" and "Hang Ups" that's just the "Nature" of a Micro, if something goes awry that it cannot handle it will freeze. thus requiring a reset. I have seen this on many WHs with NO ill effects, however it also may be a harbinger of doom so to speak too.
Now, if it has never done such a thing before then this may indeed be a prelude to a sensor, or even a microprocessor problem-to-come?
Of course it also may not. You need to check ALL connections, sensors, etc, and give it the "Once over" use the service manual to assist.
If nothing can be discovered, then it will simply pay to keep an eye on things, and if anything does come up, then at least you will have a copy of the service manual, to help.

Make sure you have power to unit. Check the breaker in your breaker panel and look around unit for a timer or disconnect that may be having problems. I don't know if you are electrically inclined so if you are scared to take off front panel, don't do so. If you believe your breakers and/or any disconnects etc., are on and working, you can remove the screws holding the inspection panel on and press the reset button on the thermostat. There may be insulation covering the thermostat. The thermostat should have a plastic cover on it shielding the live wires while making it possible to press the reset switch. Again, if you are electrically inclined, you can check for power at the thermostat. These are the simple things you can check. If you reset the button, within about 3 to 5 minutes, you should here noise from inside the unit if it is working.

The reset button is set up to open the circuit if excess current is drawn by a failed Element. It works by getting hot and switching off due to current above its rating. The burnt wiring more llikely happened over a period of time because of a resistive joint in the block getting hot due to the high current that water heaters consume. It seems that the element has failed if the reset button does not get the system working.

Titan SCR2 Stopped working.

I have the Titan SCR2 N-120. You may have a different model. On mine if you are looking at it just a inch below & 1 inch to the left of dead center will be a round black sticker(it has some white lines like at&t's logo). there's a pin hole in the middle of the sticker that you can poke to reset. Or turn the breaker off then take the 2 screws out of the top of the unit. It's just a thin metal cover that you can pull back & look inside. You'll see a red circular button thats the reset button. It's right behind where the hole I was talking about & what gets pushed in. you'll also be able to see if anything burned out & can get replacement parts at titanheater.com . One of my heater elements had burn/ melted & I've ordered a replacement. It was $17 + $11 s&h but still cheaper than $200 new unit from e b a y. Best of Luck

No hot water have to take cover off and hit reset button

The thermostat is going bad and needs to be replaced. Also look for water leaks that could be causing a short to the thermostat. If the tank is leaking, replace the unit.

hit the priority button, this will reset it, the go thru and reset the temp again, turn the unit off and on again waiting atleast 30 sec. the filters might be clogged on the shut off valves and not letting the right amoutn of water flow thru, they are behind the cap screws turn off the water on both sides take out the screens and clean them then reinstall and turn the water and unit back on,you might want to fluch out the system while you have the screens out

How to install a new temp sensor Whirlpool electric water heater

The instructions for installing the sensor will probably included with the new part. Also, when you receive the part and actually see it, you will probably know where it will go. Sometimes, things like this happen even with new units. I have had bad thermocouples on brand new units right from the factory. It happens and unfortunately it happens to us sometimes. Good luck and if you get the part and still have trouble, contact them again. If you would have bought a GE (Rheem) unit, they would have sent a tech out to your house at no cost. I'm not a fan of Whirlpool water heaters.
