Hi,

After you have deleted the Upper/Lower filters, did you restart the computer? Since you made changes on the registry you need to restart the computer in order for it to take effect. This applies to any changes you made in the registry.

Thank you for choosing FixYa!

Dvd room does not work. Can not read CD, DVD or burn to CDs or DVDs. I have a Acer Aspire 5738ZG.

Hi Welcome to FixYa!
Is this happening on all CDs or DVDs? if it is, the issue that you are encountering could be a software or Hardware issue. Follow the steps below to find out.
1)If its a sofware issue, it could be with the Upper or Lower filters settings for the cd/dvd rom on the registry that is causing you the problem. You could check it by opening Registry Editor. (click on start>type "regedit" on the searchbox and open it. You should be seeing something like the picture below : mondimondz_2.jpg

2)go to this entry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} That is the key entry for your CD/DVD rom.. Once you are on that key, look at the right panel, and search for Upper Filters or Lower Filters. If you see those entries, delete them. Be careful not to delete some entries on the registry aside from those two.
3)after deleting them, restart the computer.
4)Once you get back into Windows, try to load any cd or dvd and check if it will now be able to read them.
5)if it still does not work, try to go to your computer manufacturer's website and download the latest firmware for your CD/DVD drive.
6)If all else fails, try replacing the CD/DVD drive on your computer.
Hope this could be helpful!
Have a great day!

My Hp pavilion 533w Desktop's dvd drive wont open or blink(light)

Try the brute force method: stop the pc, open its case, disconnect the data cable from the dvd, close the case and reboot, run a registry cleaner, stop the pc, make sure the hard disk is set as master and the dvd set as slave and reconnect the dvd, start the pc.

Hp dv6917cl computer does not show cd rom on screen unable to boot from cd drive or use cd drive at all. tried switching drive out still same problem light comes on during start up on the drive door but...

► check for the registry entry h_key local machine -> control -> current control set -> class and check for the registry entry 4D36E965 and under this entry you would find the upper filters and the lower filters and delete the entries restart the computer if this does not work ► check in the device manager for the cd / dvd drive if the driver has a yellow exclamation mark put a right click and uninstall the driver restart the computer ► if this does not work reseat the optical drive ► if this does not work then needs to perform a recovery if it does not work after the recovery then it is a h/w issue and needs to replace the optical drive

DELL Inspiron 6400. CD/DVD ROM cant read any cd/dvd used to work before but not working anymore. updated the firmware from Dell website, done the upgrades etc.. still doesnt work? help please.

If the drive still spins up when you insert a disk it sounds like the lasers have picked up dirt/dust or have burnt out. Try opening the drive door and blowing hard into the aperture (without spitting). If that doesn't help then I would suggest replacing the drive. I assume that you have tried the disks in another machine and that they run fine.

Cannot find my E: Drive CD/DVD Player, just disappeared. HELP

this e:/ drive ur talking abt,is it ur cd/dvd drive? if it has disappered then u can try these steps. following them would clear the upper and lower filters from the windows registry which might not have updated it self with the vista updates so i really am sure that this would solve ur issue.
Step 1: Start Registry Editor loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); 1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. 2. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet. 3. Expand Control, and then expand Class. 4. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. 5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak. 6. On the Edit menu, click Delete. 7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the UpperFilters registry entry: Are you sure you want to delete this value? The UpperFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey.

Note Do not exit Registry Editor. You must have this program for the next step.
Step 3: Delete the LowerFilters registry entry loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); 1. 5. In the right pane (topic area), click LowerFilters.

Note An LowerFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the LowerFilters registry entry, you must click LowerFilters and not LowerFilters.bak. 6. On the Edit menu, click Delete. 7. When you receive the following message, click Yes to confirm the deletion of the LowerFilters registry entry: Are you sure you want to delete this value? The LowerFilters registry entry is removed from the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} registry subkey. 8. Exit Registry Editor.
Step 4: Restart the computer loadTOCNode(3, 'resolution'); If a CD recording program no longer works after you restart the computer, you must reinstall the CD recording program. or u can try to burn the disc using the inbuilt burner program that cam in ur laptop
