Hi.
a strong burning smell would suggest an electrical burnout of some kind. could be wiring, switch or motor.
new motors are available for around £35 on ebay. switches are available as well. wire is readily available.
the machine would have to be stripped to find where the problem is (and the cause) and to make sure that there is no heat damage to the casing
it is not a difficult job to do, but i would leave it to a qualified electrician due to the mains electricity.
i have no idea what the electrician would charge in your area.

hope this helps

I have the Animal CD-07 and what I do is take some Lavender oil and place a few drops of it on the filter. That way at least it smells better. Works for me!

Dyson stopped working

There are three things that "stop" (no noise anymore) a DC07 working. I will list them in order of the most common to least common faults.

1) The motor is burnt out. Caused by over filling and not cleaning the filter regularly. You must replace the post motor filter when getting the motor replaced
2) The power cord has failed. This can usually be seen by visually inspecting the cord for damage.
3) The on/off switch has failed.

All of these faults should be repaired by a licensed sparky for safety reasons.

My dyson dc28 brush stopped turning after a pop and smoked. Smelled like burnt plastic. The attachment hose still has suction and is working fine. What happened?

Hiya.

When an object gets under the machine it can
cause the brushbar to suddenly jam. The belt between the motir
and the brushbar however is forced to keep turning
causing the rubber belt to burn an then break.

My dyson dc17 animal is creating sparks and smells like it is burning. i think the motor is going out, but i can't figure out how to disassemble the vacum.

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. We'd strongly advise against attempting to repair the cleaner yourself, as this sort of work should only be carried out by a Dyson engineer. If your machine is currently covered by our 5-year warranty, attempting to repair it yourself would void this.

It's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can assist you in resolving this issue as quickly as possible. You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to askdysonUS@dyson.com, someone will be in contact as soon as possible. We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Same here...

You sucked up something that stopped the brush from turning. This made the belt slip causing a burning smell.

Dyson 07 plug gets very hot after prolonged vacuuming

Electrical current passes through the electric cord and plug - it will get warm, that's normal. If the problem is worse where you smell an electrical burning smell, only an authorized dealer can fit a new power cord to your vacuum cleaner. Call the Dyson helpline, they will let you know who the closest repair dealer in your area is.
