OKI C5100 Making grinding noises

Hi;

We have a OKI C5100 at our church. It's run fine for several years, but all of a sudden, started making grinding noises from within, and then flashed 540 and 541 errors. I cleaned the opticals for each of those drums, and even cleaned out all the old toner and made sure the gears on those would turn, which they seem to do. This made no difference; still get the grinding and error codes. I reset the counters on all consumables, still no diff. If I had to guess, I'd say the sound is coming from the unit under the transfer belt that has several optical sensors on it. When the gears near that unit are turned, the back of that unit slides toward the fuser, exposing the opticals, and when it gets what appears to be close to the end of its travels, that little sliding part pops back and forth as if it is stuck and a hear a little click - Not positive this is it, but best I can see! I don't know anything about these, but I'm a pretty savvy repair guy - Is this something I can fix?

    After reading this post I experimented and indeed the grinding or "clicking" as I called it in my last post is coming from the unit under the transfer belt that has several optical sensors on it that when explosed at the end of the gears complete causes the sliding part to pop back and forth as if it is stuck and thus making the clicking noise. What is the reason and the solution for solving this. Anyone?

ok first try restarting your printer, then try uninstalling the driver for your printer off your computer, restart your computer and printer and then reinstall your drive for the printer, see if you get a replacement for your printer or a refund

When printing on my oki c5100 text or image - it prints fine but with a smudge/ghost of the image or text also on the paper. I know I need to order new toner - could this be why?

Open you printer and pull out the fuser assembly and look if the upper roller is fine because if it`s damaged it could lead to the double image.

My oki C5150 is making a clicking noise in the front like the sound of a playing card in a tire spoke when riding a bike. ( i used to do this when I was a kid )

I had this problem with my C5100. In addition to the noise, it would not print. It turned out that it was the black drum and I replaced it. The noise went away and I could print. I have since found out that there is an internal counter that disables the drum after it gets to a preset number of copies. I searched for and found instructions on how to reset the drum counter in advance of it "self-destructing". It may be too late to do this after it starts clicking, but it can be used in the future.

I have an oki c3530 and it is making a terrible grinding noise, any ideas?

One of the drums needs to be replaced. Systematically remove one at a time until the grinding noise no longer happens, then replace that drum.

Grinding noise on OKI C3300

I have had a similar problem. . Black drum needed changing. There was also a grinding noise developing. I have taken each drum and toner module out of the printer and booted it up with one of the 4 missing. It was the Cyan drum that was making the noise. . Question is what can I do? I am not a printer expert. .

I will contact the local printing shop that I use for more info and will come back to you. I suspect that I will need a new drum . . .

grinding is NOT cool...i'd say that you have a mechanism issue with this printer. How long have you know this printer?

One of the drum cartridges is stuck. Test by removing them one at a time with the printer off, then turning on.

OKI C5100 only printing cyan

I need to know if the test page that the unit prints as "Demo Page" comes out fine. If this is the case, your problem is within your application (software) or computer connection (check all cables). If this is NOT the case, I'll need to know more about your scenario. Operating system, type of connection (USB, parallel) and what are you trying to print. I'll be waiting.

Oki C9500 makes VERY LOUD clunking noises but prints fine...

The sound is most probably from one (or more) of the drum units. You can check by taking them out and trying to run the visible gears by hand. If you have spare drums, change them one at a time until you find the defective one.
