Question about Heating & Cooling

Open Question

In this FixYa article, http://www.fixya.com/support/t1343025-frigidaire_ac_heater_window_unit_problem ... it addresses a lot of my problems that I am having with my unit. Toward the bottom the helper guru guy suggests to go find the wiring guide for my unit (info to be given blow) here: http://www.frigidaire.com/customersupport . I'm not the sharpest tack in the shed so I'm not having much luck finding it. I found this monstrosity, which to layperson like myself is just...OK - numbers...what the heck with numbers?? http://c.searspartsdirect.com/lis_png/PLDM/R0704064-00001.png OK, it's all the parts of my unit in the order the are fashioned together to make the thing in my window! got it! I still do not know where to look for the items he said to check. I would Love for my heater to work after the 3+ years I've had it now. (Sister bought it and promptly lost all manuals and receipts so it couldn't be used for warranty) Also, if you could,, I do not own but the most rudimentary of tools, is there any way you can tell which I will need to look inside and possibly do adjustments? One last mind blowing thing that I'm curious if you have ever heard of. It is not problem for me, it happened and i have learned to live with it, but, last Spring (always something wrong in Spring when it's 90F already in Florida and its the first couple fire-ups of the unit - I was trying to find out why my fan wasn't spinning - problems solved in my own way in the end so its OK) something electrical went amiss and it blew the breaker as it should to prevent bad thigs from happening. I reset the breaker, plugged it back in , hit the reset button and turned the unit on. It work fine, however, it has now decided it wants to read in Celsius instead of Fahrenheit !! There is no button, no switch or anything that I can find anywhere that is meant to change it...nor is there anything in the manual PDF I've DL'd about this even being a possibility of something that can be done. I've known since the beginning that my unit is a little bit "special" Dropped on his head when he was shipped too many times perhaps...but have you herd of this happening before and if so do you know why? I don't need to change it - I'm used to it at this point. broadened my horizons if you will, just a curiosity. Here is my make, model and serial: Frigidaire Model: FAZ08HR1A Serial: IK72006612 Thanks in advance, much Kudos!

When and if it's running, run 'dxdiag' to see if windows reports any sound and video conflicts. It could be the graphic card; as i think(correct me if i'm wrong) that this model has seperate dedicated graphics, other than being on board. I'm assuming all drivers are ok and none of the vga or dvi ports give you any video either. Although the graphics are independent, it's not like a desktop pc graphics agp card, they are; as far as i know integrated in the motherboard, so the board may be the but of your problem, in which case is a replacement worth it or is it within the warranty period.

Remove the front panel & see if the unit will slide out of it's sleeve. Usually it is the sleeve that is bolted in, & the unit itself will pull out from inside.

Feel the motor and see if hes hot ...... spin the fan by hand and see if it spins freely  if not the bearings have seized up.   So either rebuild the fan motor simply by replacing the bearings and oiling them and that should fix your problem.    IF the fan spins freely   OHM out the fan  and make sure there is no shorts or openings in the fan.     if your fan motor checks out good both mechanically and electrically  then your next step is to check the capacitor and control board

I think that most of the information that I can provide is in that article. If you have specific additional questions, I can try to help. By the way, the T41 that I couldn't get running ended up needing a new mother board. Oh well...

Clicking sound is the contactor engaging to start the outside unit. Check for a burnt off wire at the contactor. For some reason you are not getting power to the outside unit. If you find a burnt off wire shut off all power to it then remake the connection at the point of the circuit break.

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.

Sounds like the cold control has stuck . Unplug the two wires from the cold control and plug them together. Turn one wire over and plug it into the other. away from the cold control.
The cold control is the knob in the ref that turns it on and off and has numbers on it. (Thermostat)
If it runs then that cold control (Thernostat) is the problem.
If that doesn't work DO THIS:
The relay on the compressor may need replaced
A relay starts the compressor with a higher voltage and then quickly kicks out
Thats what is happening with yours
Its best for a tech to replace The relay but you can do it
Take your model number to your Local Appliance parts store they will have a diagram
showing you how to install the relay. Its called a hard start relay
also try hooking the two wires together on the cold control to route around the cold control.
Be sure the BACK COVER is in place and hasnt been accidently removed.

Hi,
As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer2_bing.gif and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...
