Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

If external USB HDD (backup) is connected and turned on before computer is turned on, computer locks up. If computer is on and Windows is up, usb drive is turned on it's ok. I use Acronis for my backup software but it can't find the backup drive if I Boot from a bootable Acronis CD to ensure restoration capability. I've tried two different usb externals and get the same results. Two sata 150 drives are set up as raid1. This is not a driver problem! It has to have something to do with this mobo. Help would be much appreciated.

Check your BOOT options.
Depending on your computer, F12 while PC is booting may bring up this option.
Appears it may attempting to boot from USB rather than CD or Hard Drive.

Check and let me know of result.

I have an HP TouchSmart 600. When it was updated to Windows 10, it no longer recognizes the Mad Dog external hard drive (model: MD-AEN350COM), and does not show it in file explorer.

I'm a bit of an expert on storage systems. (for sure externals)
it's a SATA HDD in a box with USB cable right?
mad dog,
did you :
1: use the power pack for it> (it came with it) use that !!!
do not tell me it works on other PC lacking that pack

The usb ports can not run that hdd startup currents on vast numbers of Laptops with gutless 100ma usb ports. a fact.
2: next try all USB ports, test the ports with mouse to see that The USB port is even good, at all? next.

it must show up in disk manager first not explorer, its windows and that is a fact. (SEEN IN COMPUTER MANAGEMENT OF CP)
3: are you web connected?, when plugging in the USB cable.
if not , do not expect drivers of any kind to work .
a: PC on.
b: power pack connected to mad dog, put ear to MD case hear the drive spin, if not the power pack is bad, or the drive is dead.
c: plug on the USB cable last, hear windows(be web connected) go
DINGGONGSOUOND? it not the port is dead, try all USB ports
try looking in DM to see if USB ports are dead, some older laptops have USB3 ports that windows has missing drivers, and must be hand loaded by you to make uSB3 work(ask me how)
so try all USB ports. try a mouse on them all , all USB ports must work with a simple mouse. if not use only those ports that work with the mad dog.

dingdongsound = ms windows-system-sounds, called DEVICE connect, have volume up, and that enabled and you will get that sound for any USB connects.
try a mouse or usb stick on all USB ports to prove the all work. first.
then play with HDD. external.

Can it be connected to more than one computer?

Yap this is possible by sharing your External hdd from your physically connected Computer. Follow the instruction under the following.
Connect the external hard drive to the computer and turn it on. Go to "My Computer." Right-click the name of the external hard drive that you want to share and select "Properties." Click the "Sharing" tab and select "Advanced Sharing."

The reason there are two USB plugs it the power required by the external hdd is too much for one USB.
Mac do not use NTFS or other types of file systems like windows does. When you have plugged the external drive in, give it a minute to sort out what it can do and go to Disk Utility. Locate the external hdd and format it for MAC.
Go to Time Machine and set up that drive as the backup drive and proceed to back up the computer to the drive. This may take some time!

One day i connected my Transcend storejet with Macbook laptop of my friend and when he clicked the drive, computer started to make backup. He stopped the backup process in between. After that when i connected...

This is because of the file system...Mac uses a different kind of file system, while windows uses a different one...
You need to format the hdd before using in windows machine...
because your HDD file system would have altered by MAC...
Now format the HDD from device manager and you will be able to see the HDD under windows explorer...

Transcend 500 GB External HDD is detected but doesnt show the data in it.

Your external HDD may be corrupted. Recover the data before you use it.

First things first: STOP using the external hard dive that you want to recover data from in case you may quite possibly ruin your chances of data recovery.

Then Recommend you have a try of Wondershare Data Recovery, a data recovery program with both Windows and Mac versions provided. It should help you. Get the related versions here,

Data Recovery Windows (for Windows)
Data Recovery Mac (for Apple Mac OS)

Remember - Do NOT try & write anything back to your hard drive until you can recover your data safely!

Hallo, I have a LaCie Grand 1 TP external harddrive. I cant work in mine hard drive. I cant throw anything away i cant rename documents or put new ones on it. Some background info A few months...

you may face this issue because of differences between mac and windows file systems/partition table and security attributes that may disallow any further changes.

1-try to connect you HDD to a windows Computer and Backup all your files before loses any data(use more newer version of windows like windows 10 build 1709 windows XP is old/out of services and has many problems)
2-after a full backup in windows try to connect your HDD to your mac and format it via your MacBook
3- after formatting your HDD try to reconnect your HDD to windows and copy your files to HDD(windows has a compatible file systems that could read/allow/write mac file systems/partition and its attributes)

SimpleTech 250 GB external drive

there could be several reasons,
1, HDD could be having a issue
2. The USB Converter could be having an issue
3. the USB cable can be having an issue.

Here is the somethings that you can try.
1. If possible borrow a external Enclosure from a friend & try the HDD out. if it works then you have a issue with the USB Convector or the cable. if its still the same then you HDD has a issue. if thats the case you will have no choice but to take it to a computer shop & ask if they can back it up for you.
